The Lagos State House of Assembly, Ad-hoc committee on human rights, judiciary, public petitions and LASIEC, on Thursday, 13 March 2025, visited Mushin Local Government as part of the committee oversight functions, visiting all the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

The Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye welcomed the House Committee Chairman, Hon. Oladipo Olayinka Ajomale, representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2 and members to the council as the committee chairman asked the Council Chairman and the Mushin Electoral Officer, Mr. Bakare Olagoke, how prepared and ready are they for the election.

The Council Chairman, responding to questions from the August visitors, said the council is ready to make sure that the next local government election is free and fair, as they are putting all hands on deck from the security to the community to ensure nothing is left undone.

“We are ready for the forthcoming local government election; we will engage all the stakeholders and carry out sensitization; I can assure you that we will support LASIEC in conducting a free and fair election in Mushin,” He said.

He mentioned to the committee that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had earlier visited the Council and conducted an inspection of the facility, like the store for storage of election materials, which they are satisfied with.

Mr Bakare, the Mushin LGA electoral officer was thoroughly grilled on the part of the electoral commission, asking what LASIEC needs from the council to conduct a hitch-free election.

The Council Chairman made a passionate appeal to the Committee Chairman to consider increasing the benchmark of funds and approval limit for local governments as the local councils are doing great work to promote grassroots development.

Speaking with Mushines News, the House Committee Chairman said very soon the INEC portal will be open for fresh voters' registration and every other thing and expressed confidence in the Council Chairman in making sure that Mushin continues to shine in the elections as his fantastic performance in office will speak volumes in making the election hitch-free.

The Council Chairman said they are only waiting for the election guidelines from the LASIEC for the election to be held in June 2025.
