Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has successfully hosted its 2025 edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition — a platform designed to promote literacy, healthy academic rivalry, and confidence among pupils and students across Lagos State.
The competition, an initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, features participants from all 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, who first compete at their respective local levels to qualify for the state stage.
At the Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA edition, two outstanding students emerged champions. Auna Heritage Oluwajymiloju, an SS2 student of Ransome-Kuti Memorial Grammar School, won in the secondary school category, while Adegbola Adetolani of Local Government Primary School clinched the primary school category. Both winners, along with their second and third winners, will represent the LCDA at the state finals.
Gifts were presented to the three winners from each category by the Chairperson of the LCDA, Mrs Adebimpe Jakande, the Vice-Chsirman's wife, Hon Dayo Awodogan along with wives of the Honorable Councilors present.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, commended the initiative as a vital educational program that enhances students’ academic development, especially in English Language proficiency.
“This competition prepares our children for future academic challenges and strengthens their mental alertness and confidence,” he said. “It brings all schools together, fostering interaction and healthy competition among pupils and students within the community.”
He further revealed that the council would soon revive the annual Yuletide Season Academic Program, which includes quiz and debate competitions for both public and selected private schools within the LCDA.
Also speaking, the Council’s Chairperson, Mrs. Adebimpe Jakande, praised the participants for their courage and determination. She described every contestant as a winner for having the boldness to compete.
Mrs. Jakande urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to continue prioritizing education, emphasizing that academic excellence requires consistent effort both at home and in school.
“Parents should not allow house chores to consume their children’s study time,” she advised. “While domestic duties are important, reading and homework must take priority.”
The event was attended by teachers, education officers, parents, and community stakeholders who applauded the council for its continued investment in youth development and education.
