Members of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN), Branch A, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, turned out in large numbers for a one-day sensitisation programme focused on voter participation and political engagement through the All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration process held at the branch office, Fafolu Street.
The transport body, a major branch affiliated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and widely known for operating commercial tricycles popularly called Keke NAPEP, organised the event as part of efforts to educate its members on the importance of civic responsibility and political inclusion. The programme was held under the leadership of the branch chairman, who stressed the need for riders to be active stakeholders in governance.
Addressing the participants, the branch Chairman, Comrade Ishola Adewale, also known as Gadafi, highlighted the significance of obtaining a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), describing it as a vital tool that gives citizens a voice in choosing leaders and shaping policies that affect their livelihoods. The chairman noted that tricycle operators form a large segment of the grassroots population and must not be left out of the democratic process.
The event attracted APC political leaders like Hon. Adeyemi Alli- member, Federal House of Representatives, Mushin Constituency 1, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya- member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mushin 2, Hon. Saying Jakande, Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Rasaq Ajala- immediate past Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Lekan Fatodu- Director General of Lagos State Sport Commission, Hon. Babatunse Kazeem, Chairman, APC Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA Chapter, who took turns to speak on the benefits of political participation. Speakers emphasised that registering as APC members through the ongoing e-registration exercise would not only strengthen the party’s grassroots structure but also position riders to benefit from government empowerment programmes, policy inclusion, and other opportunities.
They further explained that political awareness and proper registration would enable members to engage constructively with elected representatives, particularly on issues affecting transportation, road infrastructure, and riders’ welfare.
Participants were also guided on the procedures for completing the APC e-registration and encouraged to ensure their voter details are up to date ahead of future elections. Many attendees described the initiative as timely, noting that it helped clarify misconceptions about voter registration and party membership.
The sensitisation programme ended with a renewed call for unity among members and continuous engagement in civic and political activities aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of tricycle operators and the wider Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye community.
The TOOAN members present were assisted in registering for their Permanent Voter's Cards, NIN registration and the APC E- registration.
