The Education Secretary of Mushin Local Government Education Authority, Princess Olufemi Akinlude engaged stakeholders on how to enhance primary education in Mushin and Odi-olowo Ojuwuye LCDA in a two-day seminar with the theme "Enhancing Education in the socio-political development of our community".

The two days seminar held on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th of March, 2021 was aimed to equip critical stakeholders like educators, politicians, and parents in primary education to change the narrative out there about Mushin and protect the future of school children in Mushin.

The two days seminar was well attended and due to Covid19 protocols, each day had different participants. The Wednesday seminar at Layi Oyekanmi Primary School had the Chairmen of School-Based Management Committee which comprises community members to monitor the growth of the school and the pupil's social wellbeing in and out of the school. The Thursday seminar was held at Olisa Primary School with Chairmen of Parent Forum from all primary schools in Mushin.

The Education Secretary serving her second term in office informed the participants that all stakeholders must know their responsibilities in making primary school education better, as the government is playing her part in making primary school education compulsory and completely free for every child with the launching of Eko Excel, leaving no child behind and urged them to inform people that registration of pupils into public primary school is on now and it is free.

The Wednesday seminar for the School-Based Management Committee members had in attendance Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, the Chairman of Mushin Local Government ably represented by Hon. Taofeek Ojebola, the Supervisory Councilor for Education. The facilitator, Mr.John Idowu Oladipupo informed the participants that all hands must be on deck to enhance education in our community and state, government can not do it alone, every stakeholder must play their roles effectively so that a good foundation is laid for the betterment of the child, parent, and community at large. Also, informed them of their responsibilities as critical stakeholders in primary education which form the foundation of behavioral learning of every child into adulthood, creating a good foundation for the pupils' learning behavior through participation in the child activities both in and out of the school.


On behalf of the SBMC, Mrs. Oluwafumilayo Abdul, the School-Based Management Committee Chairman for Abiodun, Agege Motor Road Primary School said the seminar is to reintegrate them with their responsibilities as the government is making the public school attractive and conducive for learning which they as community members have to play their part in making sure that the pupils were taught very well and monitor the pupil's behavior in and outside the school.

The second-day seminar at Olisa Primary School in Papa Ajao had dignitaries in attendance like Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala, Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA with the Chairman of LASUBEB Board, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King ably represented by Hon. Bayo Adefuye Board member and the chairmen of Parent Forum of all primary schools in Mushin.

Hon. Rasaq Ajala advised the parents to be conscious of the new wave called internet parenting, where children of this day learn everything on the internet and mostly they are misled which it effect are enormous on the family and community at large, also a parent should not put all the responsibility of their wards education into the hand of the teachers, parents have a major role to play in giving their children quality education and making the children a good ambassador of the community and family they represent. Parents should not limit teaching to the four walls of our school, when our children come home we should endeavor to go through their books and do their homework together.

He further stated that the moral aspect of our education is very important as they spend their major time with the parents at home and children always learn by example which we as a parent should act as a role model for our children by exhibiting good moral values and by so doing the child will be a good ambassador of the family, community, state and the country at large.

Hon. Bayo Adefuye made it known that the Eko Excel idea of leaving no child behind is to make people understand that education does not stop in schools, it continues at home and in the community which every community members must be involved that every child in their community get free basic education which is primary education and must see to the affairs of every child in their community because that child you are neglecting today might be a great threat to your child and the community tomorrow because of that lack of education you refuse to give him or her, so every child must be registered to have the basic education.

The Education Secretary informed the gathering that there is an ongoing registration of children into Basic 1 to 5 in Lagos, it is free and stated that public primary schools in Lagos are upgraded to compete with private schools in term facilities and teachers.

The facilitator, Dr. Peter Ikudaisi praised the ES for starting her second term in office with the seminar and informed the parent to be alive with their children, not allowing the hustling to take away their responsibility of monitoring the child's social and educational development.

Alhaji Mufutau Adeshina, the Chairman,  Parent Forum of Olisa and Inclusive Primary School, Papa Ajao said the seminar has opened his eyes and made him know more of their responsibilities as a parent to their children in the community and he will practice all that they are taught like the issue of any child in the community that is not in school, it is their responsibility to see that the child gets an education for the development of the community.
