Youths living around Olasehinde and Omodigbo streets of Mushin LGA came together to make a difference in their community, the youths in their great numbers formed Wookan (forward-looking) Youth to promote peaceful and productive social engagement among themselves and with one another, having successfully hosted an annual street carnival for the past 12 years with great success.

On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, the youths reached out to widows and widowers in their community and presented the Easter and Sallah gifts to the elders.

About 200 elders were given food ingredients such as Spaghetti, Rice, Eggs, noodles, Maggic, Salt, Sugar and Sachet tomatoes.

According to one of the youths that spoke with Mushines News, Johnson Oluwaseun Micheal and said, the name 'Wookan Youth' was playfully came about, meaning forward-looking Youths and the initiative for the widows and widowers package came up as a way of remembering the elders in the community, who are less physically active to fend for themselves than to look up to their children.

"We, Wookan Youth see it as a way of helping our community and projecting ourselves positively for our community development." He said.

He added that the initiative can also be a source of motivation to other youths in other communities to engage themselves positively rather than engaging in thuggery, cultism or gang violence.

Presenting the gift to the elders was one of their sponsors and supporters, Alhajj Rafiu Aderomola, who admonished the youth for taking the initiative and promised to continue supporting them.

He appealed to the elders not to be worried about the token gift given to them now, that by the next one, they will not be able to carry the gifts by themselves.
