Lagos State Government sealed major markets in Mushin and Odiolowo Ojiwoye in an early morning operation by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Sunday.
According to a market leader in Mushin who wants to remain anonymous said five major markets in Mushin and Odiolowo Ojuwoye have been sealed with padlocks and sealed tape by the LAWMA operatives in the wee hours of Sunday and the reasons are not known to them.
The markets sealed are Ojuwoye Market, Mushin Market down to Oba Aileru Palace, Awolowo Market, Daleko Market, and Odo Ashimowu Market.
The market leader said this might be part of the ongoing state government drive to make the market comply with safety and other conditions standards but most of the market sealed are not indebted to LAWMA nor constitute any environmental nuisance as it occurred in other markets sealed in the past.
The market leader further disclosed that they were asked to come to the LAWMA office tomorrow Monday to know the reasons behind the sealed-off.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to State Governor, Babjide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, announced the closures on Sunday. on his X account.
He said the markets were sealed by LAWMA operatives in partnership with Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).
“Operatives of Lagos Waste Management Authority LAWMA in conjunction with LAGESC/KAI in the early hours of today sealed 5 markets in the Mushin and Odi-Olowo Local Council areas.
“Namely: Awolowo Ultra Modern Market Odi-olowo Ojuwoye Mushin, Ojuwoye Market Odi-olowo Ojuwoye Mushin, Mushin Main Market, Daleko Market Mushin, and Odo Ashimowu Market, Mushin.
“They were sealed for contravening provisions of the 2017 Environmental Management Protection law.” Gawat wrote on his X account formerly known as Twitter.
