As this year's rain began, the community has not experienced water submerging their houses and flooding as Mushin Local Government Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye de-silted 8 streets within the community.
The CDA executives in appreciation of the new experience due to the Chairman's environmental intervention are thanking the Chairman and appealing to the Chairman to extend his road construction drive to the community.
Narrating how the intervention happened and the new experience during this rainy season, Vice-Chairman of Ewe Aigbigbo CDA and Co-ordinator of Joint CDAs, Comrade Muyideen Azeze Adeola, said the community has been known for flooding for years back but now it is safe and flood free courtesy Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye.
"Some years back, our community always flooded whenever it's raining because the central canal that leads to Lawason passes through the community, whereby all the wastewater from uphill Awolowo market, Ghetto area, Ojuwoye Market, and others come to the place to connect the big canal and most time it overflows into our drainages and causes flood in our community leading to the death of about 6 to 7 residents and damaged several properties.
"As the rainy season was approaching we approached the Executive Chairman of Mushin LGA to help us with the flood problem in the area so that our people could sleep with their eyes closed and have peace of mind when it rains, as it was forecasted that this year rain will be heavy.
"The Chairman in his proactiveness, approved 8 street drainages to be cleared within our community and the work started two weeks ago up till this time, which has allowed the waste water to pass freely in the drainages to the canal, making the environment flood free this time.
"On behalf of the community and the CDAs, we want to say a very big THANK YOU, Hon. Bamigboye for making us sleep with peace of mind since the rain has started". He said.
The 8 streets de-silted by the Council were Owokoniran Street, Labinjo Street, Labinjo Court, Labinjo Lane, Adeyanju Street, Makinde Street, Bankole Street, Odesanya Street, and Erikitola / Odesanya Street, and the CDA extended the number of the streets drainages desilted with their effort because they are the one who knows where its pitches them.
Also speaking with Mushines News was the Secretary of the CDA and joint CDAs, Mr. Hassan Adebayo who explained more.
Mr. Hassan made it known that it was rained a day before the interview on Friday, 28 June 2024 and they knew what they would have experienced if not for the Chairman's intervention, "When it rains here, it is always flooded". He added.
Promised to collaborate on what the Chairman has done to make sure that the community does not experience flood again as they will be doing what is needful as the residents to monitor the drainages and appealed to the Chairman to extend his road construction drive to the community.
"At this junction, I want to thank him for rescuing us and we want to appeal to him to please extend his touch light on road construction in Mushin to the area as we have some roads begin for attention". He said.
It was gathered from residents that the cause of flooding in the area is the environmental nuisance of the people dumping waste and refuse into the drainages believing that the rain will flush the waste into the canal to the Lagoon but along the line, the waste gets stocked somewhere in the drainage and cause a build-up of other refuse that later block the drainage, making the rainwater to overflow out and flood the whole area with all the dirts and waste.
They said the waste is from the upland not from them as they are closer to the main canal, all the wastes and rainwater come down to the area because it is a valley area.
