The popular ancient plantain, garri, and other food items market in the Idi-Oro community of Mushin LGA, Igbehinadun/ Kajola Market popularly known as Alamutu Market is about to wear a new ultra-modern look as Mushin Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye began the reconstruction on Thursday, 19 September 2024 during the groundbreaking ceremony at the market. 


At the groundbreaking ceremony which was witnessed by different people in the community, the Council Chairman addressing the people, made it known that the market will be the sixth market to be reconstructed under his administration which is in line with the smart city agenda of the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo--Olu,  rebuilding infrastructures within the State to reflect present-day realities and development. 
He also assured the existing traders in the market that their interests would be highly protected, which would accommodate them and be affordable. 


"I want to assure you, the people selling garri, plantain, and others, that there is no cause for alarm; the market will be rebuilt in a way that you continue your business with ease because there will be affordable open shops along with the modern look. 


"We want to make the market modern so that the environment you sell your farm produces is neat unlike the present condition, it is for your good and your customers to trade in a cleaner and healthy environment and this is the sixth market to be reconstructed to a modern style which is in line with our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu smart city policy., He said. 


He further appreciated the market leaders for their understanding and cooperation since the discussion to reconstruct the market started and conferred a title on one of the market leaders who has been proactive and effective in the arrangement of the reconstruction process, Mr. Muyideen Azeez Adeola as the Baba Me'to of the market. 


Speaking with Mushines News, the Council Chairman disclosed that the reconstruction process will not last one year as he would like to commission it before his administration comes to an end next year and urged the people to continue to support his government as he is ready to change the faces of Mushin before leaving office. 


He further appealed to the host community to give maximum support and cooperation to the developer during the reconstruction process. 


Speaking on behalf of the developer, Barrister Bello Halimat, the Director of Igi Aruwe Universal Services Limited said the traders should be expecting high quality in terms of the building, structure, design, and materials as the developer has partnered with quality engineers and construction workers to make the building standard and assured that the building will be completed within the next ten months before the chairman leaves the office. 


"We will want the maximum support of the host community and everyone as the reconstruction of the market to modern is for their benefit, which will increase and accelerate growth and economic activities within the local government and the State at large." She added. 


The Iyaloja of the market, Mrs. Asakade Jemilat, thanked God for witnessing the beginning of the reconstruction process and prayed that everyone who witnessed the beginning would see the end and its commissioning. 


She thanked the Council Chairman for all the good things he has been doing in the community and for seeing through the redevelopment plan of the market with all sense of sincerity of purpose. 


"They have given us assurance that we should not worry as all our interest will be accommodated by providing cleaner and healthy space for the plantain and garri sellers at affordable prices." She said. 


The new title holder in the market, Baba Me'to, Mr. Muyideen Azeze Adeola, gave all the glory to God for the commencement of the reconstruction and expressed great trust in the developer in terms of quality building. 


"Glory to God Almighty, we looked for it and we got it, I appreciate the Governor who gave us the approval to rebuild the market and the Council Chairman, he's a wonderful Chairman as we started the journey about two years ago, it was not easy, but in the end, we achieved it. 


"By God's grace, I can assure you, in the next couple of months, probably by a year, I won't be surprised if the developer completes it within nine months. She has done it before, and she can do it again." He said. 


Showing the 3D display of the new look of the market to the people, the market will have different sizes of lock-up shops, K-clamp, and open shops, two gates entrance and exit, emergency gate., Incinerator for waste management, fire services center, security posts, public toilets and bathrooms, car parks, drainage channels, and so on. 


Dignitaries across Mushin, including; the Vice Chairman, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, Legislative House Leader, Hon. Olawale Ayegbayo, Councillors, Supervisors, Council Manager, Mrs. Mojisola Gbajabiamila, the Council Heads of Departments, Special Advisers/Assistants to the Chairman, Baale of Mashewele Community, Chief Kupolukun, community leaders and other dignitaries in the community were present.
