The Chairperson of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Mrs. Kehinde Ajala on Friday, 25th October 2024 hosted young girls and female dignitaries in and outside the Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Community to celebrate the annual International Day of the Girl Child which comes up every October 11 globally to recognize girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
The theme of the event was Girls' vision for the future, personal development and hygiene were seriously discussed as female panelists from different walks of life educated the girls in attendance with their personal life experiences and insight analysis that can be applied by the girls' child to live a better life and be a game changer in any field they choose to pursue as a career.
From self-awareness, in getting to know who they are as girls, identifying their strengths and weaknesses with areas of interest which every girl child must know as she is growing to full adult.
One of the panelists said, "You want to become a doctor or any career that deals with treating people in the hospital and you are someone who reacts to blood, you should know that the profession in that area is not your interest, you should know your interest at this stage, what you are good at, you can develop the interest and learn the skill for personal development, which does not disturb your academic advancement, with that you can start to create a future for yourself." Dr Adigun Mutiat said.
On hygiene, the girls were taken through the principle of self-care that boosts personal growth and confidence, knowing how good you are on the inside and outside, developing problem-solving skills, and having mentors to look up to for direction, learning, and leadership.
The host, Mrs. Ajala, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, advised mothers to be available for their children because the children are their future.
He further advised the girl child to be focused and embrace personal development, "I will advise the girls to be focused, intentional and pursue personal development, nothing a male child can achieve that a female child can not achieve, everybody is equal to the task, say no to bad friends and adding more skills to their education so that they can have an advantage over others.
She described the cause of current social vices among the youth as the collapse of communal parenting that used to exist in those days where parent of A could discipline child from parent B and vice versa, this is lacking in our community now and, we also need to let every child know that in as much the internet has come to stay, the usage is on them, they have to know that there are two sides of the internet, the good and the bad side, they should tend toward the good side of it." She said.
The event also has in attendance the wives of some political office holders like Councilors and Supervisors.
Other dignitaries in attendance added their voices to the theme, and the girls asked the panelists questions based on what the panelists said for better understanding. Gifts were presented and packed to the girls in bags containing essential materials for their personal hygiene, like sanitary pads, roll-ons, and so on.
