As part of the measures by Mushin Local Government under the leadership of Hon Emmanuel Bamigboye to curb the incessant violence and thuggery, in.Mushin community, which leads to fighting and killing of one another, causing insecurity and disruption of social peace.
The Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, has ordered the closure of markets in Mushin, most especially markets within the red zone where the insecurity is emanating from like Ago by the market street of Mushin market.
The Chairman made it known that it is part of the resolutions made with the new Lagos State Commissioner for Police so that the criminals who hide within the market can be flushout and any market tha fails to comply will be locked indefinite.
"In our meeting with the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, we agreed to work with the police to flush out the criminals in our community, as we observed that the criminals are hiding at our major markets where they gather to plan their crime, terrorising the community and causing insecurity.
"So, to allow our security operatives to flush out the criminals from the market, we have to order the traders to stop all buying and selling activities and close the market by 7pm so that the police can come in to apprehend the hoodlums hiding in the market and any market that fails to obey the order will be locked indefinitely, ". The Chairman
He added that they are aware that every market should close by 6pm in Lagos State but due to the nature of Mushin as a commercial hub centre in Lagos state, he extended it to 7pm, that no trader is expected to be in the market except the market security.
He advised the people to be their own police by monitoring what is going on around them and reporting to the police before it gets out of hand.
"These boys terrorising the community are not ghosts, whenever you see them gathering or moving in large numbers at somewhere, the police should be alerted on time but when our people are not saying anything to the police, how do we fight the insecurity caused by these criminals, our people should please be vigilant in the area and report to the police any criminals and hoodlums living around. "He said.
He disclosed that as part of his administration's drive to make the community safe and secure, almost all the roads reconstructed have solar streetlights installed, to make our community brighter and shine at night and it has helped some communities in Mushin to fight the thuggery acts by those criminals.
In response to the order, the Iyaloja General of Mushin Markets, Alhaja Taibat Borokini appreciated the government effort in bringing peace to Mushin community and said the order will be followed to the letters.
"We appreciate our government's effort in making Mushin peaceful but the criminal acts of these hoodlums terrorising the community is our concern as well and we have instructed our market women and men to comply with the order because we are also flushing out those thugs and hoodlums harbour themselves within our markets," She said.
