In a swift political development following the resignation of the elected Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Tunde Azeez (popularly known as Disco), the Agege Legislative Council has confirmed AbdulRahman Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, as the new Executive Chairman of the council.

Hon. Azeez tendered his resignation on Wednesday, citing health challenges that, according to him, had limited his ability to effectively discharge his constitutional duties. His resignation letter was formally presented to the council leadership at a plenary session held at the legislative chamber.

Shortly after the letter was read and accepted, the Leader of the House, Hon. Adeshina Haruna, announced the appointment of AbdulRahman Obasa — who had been serving as the Vice Chairman — as the substantive council chairman, in accordance with the Lagos State Local Government Administration Law.

The brief swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the council’s legislative leader and witnessed by party leaders, council officials, and political stakeholders from across Agege.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman AbdulRahman Obasa expressed gratitude to the council legislators and residents of Agege for their confidence in his leadership, promising to continue the development agenda initiated by his predecessor.

“This is a call to service. I assure the good people of Agege that the administration will not lose focus. We will build on the foundation laid by Hon. Azeez and bring more progress to our communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former chairman, Hon. Azeez, in his resignation remarks, thanked the people of Agege for their support throughout his tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.

“My health challenges have made it difficult for me to serve as actively as I wish. I thank God for the opportunity to serve and believe Agege will continue to thrive under the new leadership,” he stated.

Political observers have described AbdulRahman Obasa’s emergence as both expected and strategic, given his role as vice chairman and the political influence of his father, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, in Agege’s political landscape.

The new chairman is expected to continue the council’s ongoing infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment projects as the administration enters a new phase.
