The GCAST Disability Foundation, a nonprofit organisation established by persons living with disabilities in Lagos, particularly within Mushin and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, hosted a colourful funfair to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event held at the Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA Secretariat Hall brought together foundation members and government representatives in a show of solidarity, empowerment, and inclusiveness.
Dr Mrs. Ayoola Oyeyemi, the Special Adviser on Central Internal Audit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and life matron of the foundation, representing the governor, delivered a message of encouragement, urging persons living with disabilities to embrace self-belief and resilience.
She stressed that disability does not diminish potential, saying, “There is ability in disability.” Mrs Ayoola also announced a scholarship pledge for ten members of the foundation—covering primary to tertiary levels, as well as support for a special-needs child presented by his mother during the event. She further reaffirmed her continued commitment to advancing the welfare of persons living with disabilities in the community.
Speaking with Mushines, the President of the GCAST Disability Foundation, Mrs. Grace Igbobi, who is visually impaired, shared the inspiring journey behind the organisation. She highlighted its achievements since inception and appealed for strengthened support from government agencies, private institutions, and well-meaning Nigerians to enhance the quality of life for members.
The celebration also witnessed the attendance of notable personalities, including Hon. Oluwagbeminiyi Awodogan, Vice Chairman and Chief of Staff of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, who represented the Council Chairman, Hon. Saying Jakande. Hon. Yinka Kazeem, Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Mushin Constituency 2, was represented by Engineer Adebayo Ayodeji Raymond.
The event featured music, dance, motivational sessions, and presentations aimed at promoting inclusion, raising awareness, and celebrating the resilience of persons living with disabilities.
The GCAST Disability Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to championing dignity, equal opportunities, and community support for all persons living with disabilities in Mushin, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, and beyond.
