A devastating fire outbreak in the afternoon of Christmas Eve has completely destroyed the Great Nigeria House complex and three buildings beside in Lagos, leaving residents and business owners in shock during what should have been a festive season.
The inferno, which reportedly started from the 5th floor of the Great Nigeria House, rapidly engulfed the whole 22 storey building and three other buildings beside the the Great Nigeria House, reducing them to rubble before emergency responders could fully contain the situation. Eyewitnesses said the fire spread quickly, aided by combustible materials and the close proximity of the structures within the complex.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that their operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress call. Firefighters battled the raging flames for several hours to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and residential areas.
Although no casualties were recorded as of the time of filing this report, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the incident. Many occupants were said to have lost valuable belongings, documents, and goods stored in the affected buildings.
