The Lagos State Government has warned schools against compelling parents and guardians to purchase approved textbooks, uniforms and stationery directly from school authorities as schools prepare to reopen on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The warning was issued by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), which reminded parents and guardians of their consumer rights.

According to the agency, while schools may provide lists of approved books, uniforms and stationery, parents should not be unnecessarily forced to purchase them directly from the school where equivalent approved items are reasonably available from other suppliers at lower prices.

LASCOPA urged parents who encounter such practices to report their complaints to the appropriate consumer protection authorities.

The government said the move is aimed at protecting parents from unfair practices and ensuring they are treated fairly as they prepare their children for the new academic session.
