The National Emergency Management Agency has released the official total number of people found in the rubble of the collapsed building in Mushin as the rescue operation reached ground zero.

NEMA said four persons found dead while one was rescued alive in the building at 2-4 Oye Sonuga Street, Papa Ajao in Mushin, Lagos on Friday, 23 September 2022.

Mushines news gathered from residents who are assisting the rescue operation team that, two males and two females were found dead, among them was, a prostitute and customer found naked in a room trapped in the rubble as the rescue operation reached the ground floor, the two ladies were identified by some of the prostitutes as their sisters they are looking for which the two men are yet to be identified, a lady was also rescued alive, unable to breathe very well and later restored by the LASAMBUS officers.

One of the prostitutes, called Joy narrated that the ladies were having customers with them in their rooms which made them unable to rush out quickly as the building is showing signs of collapse 

She said, "as the building is showing signs of collapse with the concrete cracking and falling, we started shouting, everybody come out oh! and running out of the building but the two girls were having customers in their rooms which made them unable to come out of the building, before it collapsed, they are our sisters we are looking for and thank God one of them were rescued alive.

"It was a terrible experience for us, if not that we hurriedly ran out of the building, many people would have been trapped, and the incident didn't happen at night, I thank God for my life".

In an investigation into what would have caused the collapse, residents and occupants of the building testified that the building was distressed and showing signs of weakness.

It was gathered that the collapsed portion of the building to make the L shape was not part of the building's original plan it was just added and the building is about 40 years which would have affected the adjourning building.

The collapsed building is popular in Mushin, a multi-purpose building that has an underground nightclub and bar, a brothel of about twenty rooms, a land-based satellite station at the penthouse, business shops, a creche and about 15 self-apartments.

The adjoining building that has the underground nightclub has been demolished  with one storey building that has a spar shop and the street has been blocked as clearing of the debris continues by Lagos State Government.
