Chief M. A. Obagun, the founder and chairman of Onward Paper Mill Ltd situated at Obagun Avenue, Matori, Mushin died in the early hour of Tuesday, 13 June 2023 at the age of 91.
The deceased is one of the most popular makers of stationery in Nigeria created the Onward Stationery Stores in 1953, later the stationery store grew into Onward Paper Mill in 1973 as the first indigenous paper converter to manufacture and market top-quality stationery in Nigeria which many residents of Mushin and Lagos have been gainfully employed.
Onward Paper Mill expanded into importation of many other paper products over the years and built a solid reputation for supplying quality paper products and later began to manufacture stationery products like notebooks and envelopes amongst others.
In 1989, the Epesok paper mill was created to manufacture jumbo rolls and tissue products.
Besides being a successful entrepreneur, the deceased was passionate about environmental sustainability and innovation, prompting him to support the forestry policy to ensure the renewal of depleted resources.
He was also known for helping the less privileged in society by providing jobs to young people through his businesses and delivering gifts to vulnerable people.
Chief Obagun also donated millions of naira to various educational, health, religious, and social causes across the country.
He was born in Poka, Epe of Lagos State and survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings
He had been buried according to Islamic rites at his hometown in Poka, Epe on that same day he died.
