The political atmosphere in Mushin and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye came alive as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, returned to his birthplace in what party leaders have described as more than a routine political consultation ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

The event, held at Solomon Hall, Olateju, drew a massive turnout of leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Mushin and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, filling the political stronghold of the area’s apex leader, Distinguished Senator Ganiu Olarewaju Solomon, popularly known as GOS.

Addressing the gathering, former minister and APC stalwart, Musiliu Obanikoro, described Hamzat’s visit as historic, noting that Mushin holds deep personal and political significance for the deputy governor. He emphasised that the community’s influence in shaping Hamzat’s journey makes his governorship ambition a collective project for the people.

Obanikoro further called on party faithful to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing the need to secure a resounding victory not only for Hamzat but also for the APC at all levels, including support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his remarks, Senator GOS explained that while the ongoing consultations across the state are primarily targeted at party leaders and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, the Mushin engagement carries deeper emotional and political meaning.

According to him, “This is not just consultation. Mushin raised this candidate. This is home. What we are witnessing here is a show of love, acceptance, and endorsement by his people.” He added that the overwhelming turnout signified a strong, grassroots-backed approval of Hamzat’s governorship aspiration.

Taking the stage, Dr Hamzat expressed gratitude for the warm reception, describing the visit as a homecoming rather than a political outing, unlike other visits. He told supporters he was proud to come not just as deputy governor, as he had in the past, but as a hopeful successor preparing for greater responsibilities.

He urged party members to remain united and committed, noting that the 2027 elections would be crucial for consolidating the party’s dominance. Hamzat also rallied support for President Tinubu’s anticipated second-term bid, calling for increased efforts to secure victory across all electoral levels.

“I am here at home, not just as your Deputy Governor, but as your incoming Governor,” he said, drawing cheers from the crowd. “We must work together to deliver an overwhelming victory for our party.”

The event concluded with party leaders and supporters pledging unwavering support for Hamzat’s ambition, assuring him of even higher voter turnout and stronger electoral performance in the coming elections.

The gathering has further reinforced Hamzat’s growing influence within the APC, with many supporters describing the symbolic homecoming as a major boost to his 2027 governorship bid.
