On Monday, 4 August 2023 it was jubilation and excitement for the people of Mushin and Odiolowo Ojuwoye community as the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu approved the use of Adeleye Primary School building at Damegoro street for secondary school education.
It is a known fact that the Odi-olowo Ojuwoye community has a deficit in terms of secondary schools compared to Mushin which made this long overdue request to be approved.
Speaking with Mushnes News at the commissioning of the new secondary school called Ojuwoye Junior and Senior Comprehensive High School, Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala, the Executive Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA thanked the Governor for giving it a quick approval as the request has been on for the past 8 years when he was the Vice-Chairman of the LCDA to Hon. Yemi Alli who is now the member representing Mushin constituency 1 at the Green chamber of national assembly.
"I want to thank the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for this approval that we have been looking for, for the past 8 years is now a thing of the past and our students will not be trekking miles to receive secondary education as the secondary schools in the community are at Oshodi, Jinowu even Daleko which cost our parent about 8 to 10 Thousand naira every month for transportation of the student to and fro the school, with the new secondary school in this area, our parents will have to save that money for something else, I thank you Mr. Governor and other stakeholders like the Education Secretary, Princess Olu Akinlude who have made this a reality for our community," he said.
He promised that the LCDA would play her part to make sure the school is running smoothly despite that secondary school is not under their purview.
Addressing the people present on the approval. by the State Governor was the Tutor General and Education Permanent Secretary of District 6, Dr. Sherrifat Ajoke Yusuf, who said she never knew there was no secondary school within the residential area of Odiolowo Ojuwoye that students have to travel miles every day to and from to have access to public secondary school made me and other stakeholders see that the school is approved and not approved only, but begin registration of the student for the 2023/ 2024 academic session instantly.
"It is a thing of joy for me that I stand here to commission the use of Adeleye Primary School for Secondary School Education for a great community like this, There are lots of disadvantages to the students when traveling miles away from their home to school and Mr Governor quick approval is to show you how the governor is proactive when it comes to the issue of education and with this, we are solving multiple problems," She said.
She disclosed the name of the school as Ojuwpye Junior and Senior Comprehensive High School which will coexist along with the primary school and inclusive secondary school for children with disabilities.
The Tutor General made it known that the school will start to register new students into JSS 1 class and by the time the results of Primary Six pupils and JSS 3 students results are out they will be posted to the school and told the people to appreciate the Governor for making it a comprehensive secondary school which means that the student will be exposed to skill-based knowledge like entrepreneurial, ICT, entertainment and other education apart from the formal education.
The Education Secretary of Mushin Local Government Education Authority, Princess Olu Akinlude expressed great joy for the approval by the Governor most especially the inclusive school because it is a great challenge to move the pupils in the school to secondary school level.
She advised the parents, teachers, and students that will be posted to the comprehensive high school to see the school as theirs especially the parents by responding to the school and student needs so that the school can serve the community better and thanked the Chairman, the Tutor General for the persistent effort in making the school a reality and above all the Governor for making the school a comprehensive high school despite being a new school.
"This indeed is a great achievement for the Mushin Local Government Education Authority because we have been on this approval for a long time and now it is a reality that Mushin most especially Odi-olowo Ojuwoye community now have a secondary school within the residential area and to crown it all our pupils in the inclusive schools can graduate to secondary school, am very happy for this.
"My advice to the students that will be posted to the school is to maintain the school by not destroying the school's facilities and the parent should contribute to the sustenance of the school," She said.
The new students registered for the JSS 1 class were very happy to be the first students of the school and promised to exhibit good character, also parents present said this is a great development in the community as the students that will be posted will have to walk few kilometers to school and be back home on time.
The dignitaries present walk around the school building and draw out how the 38 classrooms will be shared among the primary, secondary, and inclusive schools.
