As the local government election in Lagos state is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 12 2025, which the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state held their primary elections on Saturday, May 10 for the Chairmanship at the party Secretariat, ACME and the councillorship at all the wards in the state which was referred to as the most keenly contested primary elections in the history of the party in Lagos state.

As the Chairmanship and Councillorship standard bearers for the party were elected, the Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Council Chairman, Hon. Rasaq Ajala,  described it as no victor, no vanquish, speaking with Mushines News in his office.

Hon. Ajala said the party has to choose who represents them at the general poll, and in a contest like this, everyone is a winner, no losers.

“As our party determines who become their standard bearers in the next local council election, to me there is no victor, no vanquish, everyone that contested is a winner which my vice chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande became the party standard bearer for the chairmanship election and I expect him to use his platform to galvanize all the faithful and committed loyal party members so that come July 12 election, the party emerge victorious.

“I will also advise all the aspirants who contested to shield their swords and support the party candidates so that our party can continue to be the destination of choice for respective voters.” He said.

He added that he has no doubt in the capacity of Hon. Seyi Jakande to follow the party cardinal programs to the letters as a government considering where they are coming from that Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA used to be a political environment of the opposition which they have change the narrative in the last eight years his administration came onboard.

“Since we assumed office we have made the people of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye to know that the only party that can resonate their desires and interests is APC, given a lot of social intervention we have done to the people at the lowest level of economic ladder from infrastructure, to health and social intervention to stimulate local economy, and I believe he will surpassed our modest achievements as a team.” He added 

On the issue of the consensus candidate, he made it known that the consensus arrangement has been part of the party since the beginning, as it is enshrined in the party’s constitution and advised that in arriving at a consensus candidate, the people's feelings need to be taken into consideration.

“Picking a consensus candidate, we must conduct public opinion to know the people's feelings about the would-be consensus candidate, and the outcome of that public opinion should guide the process of picking a consensus candidate at the leadership level.

“Our people are more politically conscious than before; each knows what they can do with their thumb, and if we want our party to continue to be a destination of choice for potential electorates, we must take their opinion into consideration before deciding who the would-be consensus candidate is.” He said.

He declared that his support for his Vice-Chairman is not because of the office he occupies, but personal conviction of the Vice-Chairman’s capacity to continue the good works we started as a team.

”I want to tell you categorically that I was the first council Chairman to come out in the last two years and declared to the people that if you are looking for the best person for my successor, the right man for the job is no other person than Seyi Jakande not because he’s my vice but his capacity to build on what we have started as a team even surpass our modest achievements and make our local council a destination of choice for businesses,” He said.

Appealing to the residents of the local council to believe in the decision the party AP has taken by electing Hon. Seyi Jakande to be the standard bearer for the Chairmanship, and to continue to believe in the greater vision they have for Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA.
