The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has issued a sweeping ban on street carnivals and the sale or use of firecrackers, bangers, and all fireworks across the council area as the festive season approaches.

Announcing the decision on Thursday, Aruwe said the move became necessary following recurring security challenges linked to such activities. “Past incidents have shown that street carnivals and fireworks often escalate into security breaches, violent clashes, traffic obstruction, and emergencies that could have been avoided,” he said.

According to the chairman, ensuring the safety and peace of residents remains a top priority for his administration. He warned that firecrackers and bangers not only cause panic but can also create cover for criminal activities and lead to fire outbreaks or injuries.

Aruwe called on parents, guardians, the Community Development Committee (CDC), Community Development Associations (CDAs), landlords, and community leaders to caution their children and wards. “Everyone has a role to play. We must take responsibility for our environment and ensure this festive season is peaceful,” he stressed.

He also directed the Local Government Enforcement Team and security agencies to intensify surveillance across all wards. Anyone caught organizing street carnivals or selling or using fireworks will face arrest and prosecution.

Aruwe urged residents to celebrate responsibly, cooperate with authorities, and prioritize safety. “Our collective vigilance will ensure a secure and incident-free festive period in Mushin,” he added.
