One of Mushin Local Government’s popular streets, Oduduwa Street, from Ladipo Road to Odo Eran, is finally getting the attention it deserves. The long-neglected road is currently undergoing a comprehensive reconstruction, thanks to the intervention of Hon. Olayinka Kazeem, popularly known as Esho, the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Mushin Constituency 2.
A recent visit to the site confirmed that construction is well underway. Surveyor Ademola Ibrahim of Lag Field Construction Company, the contractor handling the project, revealed that the road’s reconstruction is expected to take nine months. Unlike traditional asphalt, the project will feature interlocking bricks and solar-powered streetlights, aiming not only to improve traffic flow but also to boost security within the area.
“What we are doing now is the excavation of the trenches for the construction of the drainage and walkway,” Ibrahim explained. He commended the residents for their cooperation, promising a quality finished road.
Engineer Raymond Adebayo Ayodeji, supervising the project on behalf of Hon. Kazeem, described the initiative as a form of “reurbanising” the community. He highlighted that the improved road will serve as an alternative route for commuters, easing traffic congestion in Mushin. He also noted that Oduduwa Street is part of a broader development agenda since Hon. Kazeem assumed office, which includes the recently completed Anjorin/Ogun Street and ongoing projects on Ishaga Road and Olupese near Oshodi Terminal 1.
Excitingly, Itire Road is next in line for reconstruction, with work expected to commence before the end of the year, according to Ayodeji.
Community leaders and residents have expressed deep appreciation for the initiative.
Mr Tuki Olu Emmanuel, the Chairman of the Oduduwa Community Development Association, comprising Oduduwa Street, Ikole Street, Oshinowo Street and Efon Slate Close, lauded the Honourable for his proactive approach, recalling how initial meetings at Alausa gave hope that the promises would materialise. “We are thrilled to see work begin. With this project, Oduduwa Street will link seamlessly with Akinjobi Street by Canal, complementing ongoing road developments led by the Mushin LGA Executive Chairman, Hon. Aruwe,” he said.
Residents have pledged their continued support, promising to monitor progress and assist the contractors whenever needed. For Mushin, this long-awaited road reconstruction marks a significant step toward modernising the community and improving daily life for commuters and residents alike.
