Three suspected members of a notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate operating along the Ikorodu Road corridor in Lagos have been arrested by loyalists of Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos Chapter, residing in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
The suspects were apprehended during an early morning operation on Thursday at Fadeyi after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by Comrade Toba’s boys.
The arrest followed growing complaints from commuters over increasing cases of robbery by criminals disguising as commercial bus operators along the axis.
The syndicate was said to operate by posing as normal commercial transporters, picking up unsuspecting passengers and dispossessing them of their valuables while in transit — a criminal method popularly known as “one chance.”
Their activities had caused serious panic among road users and also triggered allegations of complicity against transport union members operating along the corridor.
Determined to clear their image and protect commuters, Comrade Toba’s boys reportedly swung into action to fish out the criminals responsible for the attacks.
Speaking on the arrest, one of the task force members identified as Abbas explained that the suspects had been under close watch before they were eventually caught.
According to him, the gang was spotted operating suspiciously in a commercial bus at Fadeyi when the team moved in.
“Immediately the driver sighted our boys, he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee, but luck ran out on him, and he was caught alongside three other members of the gang,” Abbas said.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Residents and commuters have praised the swift intervention of Comrade Toba’s boys, describing the arrest as a major breakthrough in tackling the menace of one-chance robbery along Ikorodu Road.
Many have also called on security agencies to intensify efforts in dismantling other criminal networks operating under the cover of public transportation in Lagos.
