Primary school heads across Mushin LGA and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA have received a fresh leadership mandate as the Education Secretary of the Mushin Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Hon. Aremo Yusuf Ademola Olokodana, convened a strategic pre-resumption meeting ahead of the new academic year.

The meeting, described as the first of its kind, was held on Monday, 7 September, 2026 at Methodist Primary School, Papa-Ajao, Mushin, with the LGEA management and primary school heads in attendance.

Addressing the school leaders, Olokodana stressed that the meeting was more than a routine pre-resumption gathering, but a strategic opportunity to align schools, strengthen leadership and prepare for improved academic performance.

He unveiled an 8-point strategic mandate, urging headteachers to prioritise academic performance, discipline, punctuality, teaching quality, parent communication and extracurricular development.

The Education Secretary also charged school administrators to review lessons from the previous term, set measurable academic targets, identify pupils requiring additional support and ensure teachers maintain high standards of attendance, lesson preparation, workbook marking and professional conduct.

He further encouraged school leaders to build a culture of firmness, fairness, respect, teamwork and effective communication, while motivating teachers rather than leading through fear.

According to him, a successful academic term begins with purpose, unity and clarity, stressing that every teacher must understand their responsibilities and feel supported as part of the education team.

The LGEA management and school leaders expressed appreciation to the Education Secretary for the initiative, noting that the meeting addressed critical challenges confronting schools, pupils and teachers.

The school heads particularly applauded the introduction of CCTV surveillance cameras at the LGEA and selected schools facing security concerns.

They noted that the initiative would enable school leaders to monitor activities within their schools in real time from virtually anywhere through their mobile devices, strengthening security and accountability.

Some of the school heads who spoke during the meeting described Olokodana as a leader who understands the realities of the education sector, having previously served as an Education Secretary.

They said that since assuming office, he had demonstrated a strong sense of urgency and commitment to improving the system.

The school leaders pledged to implement the Education Secretary's directives and cascade the 8-point strategic agenda to teaching and non-teaching staff in their respective schools. They are also expected to hold pre-resumption meetings with their staff ahead of students' return.

The meeting also took a political turn as Olokodana urged the school leaders to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) and take the re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates seriously in their various communities.

In a light-hearted moment, the Education Secretary drew laughter and attention when he appeared wearing two face caps bearing President Tinubu's name, using the moment to reinforce his call for support for the ruling party.

He maintained that the APC remains the political platform capable of leading Nigeria toward its promised prosperity.

The meeting is expected to set the tone for a more coordinated and performance-driven academic year across primary schools under the Mushin LGEA.
