The Fadeyi area of Mushin, Lagos in the early hours of Friday, 23 October 2026, a two-storey building under construction collapsed, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred on Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop, off Ikorodu Road, triggering an emergency rescue operation involving multiple agencies of the Lagos State Government and security operatives.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, disclosing that its emergency response team received a distress call at about 12:10 a.m. and immediately mobilised its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu base to the scene.

According to LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the rescue team commenced search and rescue operations upon arrival, deploying an excavator to remove debris and reach victims trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

As of 3:33 a.m., three adult males had been rescued alive, while the body of another adult male was recovered from the rubble.

The three survivors were reportedly working at the construction site when the building collapsed.

Following their rescue, the injured workers received immediate pre-hospital medical attention from LASEMA paramedics and personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that search and rescue operations were still ongoing to establish whether additional workers remained trapped beneath the debris.

The operation involved several emergency and security agencies, including the LASEMA Response Team, LRU paramedics, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Alagbon Division.

The coordinated operation was aimed at rescuing possible survivors and determining whether anyone else was trapped beneath the collapsed building.

Meanwhile, the cause of the building collapse has yet to be established.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the relevant regulatory authorities would investigate the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers associated with building collapses and the importance of enforcing construction standards and safety regulations across Lagos State.

The Lagos State Government, through the LASEMA chief, expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

As emergency responders continued their efforts at the scene, the incident left residents and workers in the area awaiting answers about what caused the building to collapse.
