Major markets and business centres across Mushin have been shut down today in honour of the late social and political figure, High Chief Alhaji Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado.

The closure affected major commercial hubs, including Ojuwoye Market, Amu Market, Awolowo Market, Ladipo International Market and Mushin Main Market, as traders and business owners joined residents to pay their last respects to the late community leader.

Baba Alado died on September 26, 2026, and was buried according to Islamic rites. The markets were closed to enable traders and residents to honour his memory and attend his 8th-day Fidau prayer being held today.

The Iyaloja of Mushin and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, Alhaja Taibat Borokini, said the decision was a mark of respect for a man who, according to her, played a significant role in the social and community life of Mushin.

Similarly, Iyaloja of Ojuwoye Market, Alhaja Mufuliat Adebunmi, described the closure as a fitting tribute to the late Baba Alado, saying traders wanted to identify with his family during the period of mourning.

A visit to Amu Building Materials Market by Mushines News showed an unusually quiet atmosphere, as virtually all shops were under lock and key. The closure extended to the paint and glass section of the market, areas normally characterised by heavy commercial activities and the movement of traders, customers and vehicles.

Alhaji Tajudeen Tasan, A leader of Amu Timber Market also said the traders considered it important to suspend business activities to honour the late High Chief and enable members of the market community to participate in the 8th-day prayer.

The unusual sight of normally busy Mushin markets remaining shut has drawn attention across the community, with traders and residents turning out to pay their respects to a man whose name was closely associated with Mushin's social and political landscape.

Baba Alado: Gone, but remembered.
