The just-concluded federal elections which include the Presidential and National Assembly have come and gone with so much calmness, free and fair as political parties struggle for votes from potential voters.
The 25 February 2023 general election channels a new way to the voting process, making it more credible through the use of the BVAS machine, the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, which will scan the voter's thumbprint or face for accreditation.
The BVAS machine makes votes count as only accredited voters on the machine will be allowed to vote at the polling unit, with no incident form or over-voting as it used to be.
The election started as earlier scheduled and election materials were distributed to various polling units in Mushin Constituency one and two of Odoolowo Ojuwoye LCDA and Mushin Local Government respectively and the voting commence at some polling units earlier than some, due to the distance of the polling units to the material distribution centre but not too late to serve the large turn out of voters.
As voting commence, residents, party leaders and candidates went to their polling units to cast their votes, at Polling Unit 18, Atewolara/ Mushin ward, where the Distinguished Senator Ganiu Olarewaju Solomon, the apex political leader in Mushin and Odiolowo Ojuwoye, the Director General of Asiwaju Campaign team in Lagos and a member of the Lagos State Governing Advisory Council (GAC) cast his vote at Anipele street, Mushin Constituency 2.
The Senator expressed hopefulness in the election that the All Progressives Congress candidates will triumph in the poll, advised the youth to go and cast their votes, and not to be playing ball on the street.
The process was peaceful and transparent, once you are accredited, the 3 ballot papers for the President, Senate and Federal House of Representatives are given to the voter and straight to the cubicle to thumbprint on the ballot papers to be dropped in the ballot box under the watch of parties agents, police and the INEC ad-hoc staff.
No harassment or intimidation of voters was reported except when a misunderstanding broke out between political parties' supporters but was quickly brought under control till voting ended.
As Voting ended at 2 pm at most polling units except some polling units with more voters in the queue, the INEC staff commence with the sorting of ballot papers by party name which was counted later to know the scores for each party.in the presence of party agents and public observers.
As polling unit results begin to come into the wards collation centres of the two constituencies, the APC dominance in the poll begins to show winning more polling units with a wide margin from the presidential to senate and house of representatives.
The wards collations exercise was done overnight till the following day of the election, Sunday after results from the wards collation centres were completed, it shows that APC won all the wards results at both Mushin Constituencies and the results were taken to the Local Government Collation centre at New City Primary School, along Palm Avenue, Mushin constituency 1.
At the LGA collation centre, where INEC ad-hoc staff and returning officers collated the results from the various ward under the supervision of the party agents to cross-check results before the announcement
The collation was very peaceful as party agents agreed to the results collated and the returning officers for each election, the presidential, Senate and Federal House of Representatives announced the results of the Federal House of Representatives of Mushin constituency 1 and 2 to know who will represent the two constituencies at the green chambers for the next four years.
