There was wide jubilation and celebration in Mushin and Odiolowo Ojuwoye communities yesterday as the Odiolowo land which comprises several communities within Mushin LGA and Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA crowned a new king, Oba Olamide Akinsukanmi Apena Williams after the death of His Royal Highness, Late Oba Fatai Irawo who passed away on Wednesday 27th of November, 2019.

The new king is a well-known politician in the community, a former supervisor, and the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Mushin LGA which had a positive influence on him as the best choice for the community 

The Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA secretariat hall was filled beyond its capacity as dignitaries within and outside Mushin and Odiolowo Ojuwoye were in attendance to witness the official presentation of staff and certificate of office to the new king by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-olu ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts.

The Commissioner delivered the Governor's congratulatory message to the new king and the people, urged the new king to be a king for everyone and carry the chiefs along in the affairs of the kingdom, and the people to join hands with the new king to move the community forward.

"Kabiyesi, congratulations on being the choice of the people and I urge you to be fair to everyone and be a king for all, it was a tough one but one person has to be crowned the king and you have been chosen to be the king, may your reign be long in good health and wealth, I wish you all the wisdom and understanding required to rule the Odiolowo Kingdom," he said.

He added that the King should not forget all the political leaders who have contributed in one way or the day for making today a reality and he should set a developmental target for the kingdom by collaborating with the government at all levels so that his time brings development to the community.

Hon Rasaq Ajala, Chairman of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA, as the chief host of the event gave the vote of thanks and thanked Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and everyone who has made it possible for the community to crown a new king including all the dignitaries present.

"I thanked everyone who has made today possible and welcomed all the dignitaries far and near to witness this august occasion, my prayer is that the king shall reign for long in peace and God to grant him more wisdom and understanding to rule peacefully and I seek the support and cooperation of all the leaders, traditional rulers and members of the entire Odi Olowo Ojuwoye for the king," he said.

Also, the Chairman of Mushin LGA, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye congratulated the new king, giving assurance of the king's abilities and capability to excel in his new task, having worked with him for so many years in Mushin Local Government in different capacities, described him as a man of wisdom, very disciplined and respectful in relating with elders in the community.

He thanked the Governor for the support given to the local government in terms of projects that have been commissioned and ongoing in Mushin LGA.

"I want to thank the Governor for the enthroning of the two kings in Mushin Constituencies having installed Onitire of Itire and now Olodiolowo of Odiolowo land, we thank you and appreciate your support for Mushin LGA through several projects like the Food Market Hub just commissioned in Idi-Oro and the leather making industry which is still ongoing, thank you and thank you our dear Governor," the Chairman said.

The new king, Oba Olamide Akinsunkami Apena Williams delivered his first speech as the king, and expressed profound gratitude to God that the journey has not been easy, "It is only God's grace that made it happened, I thank God for making me the King and the Governor for endorsing me as I was presented by the elders and leaders of the community to him as the king, I thanked everyone." Kabiyesi said.

He called for a one-minute silence to be observed for the late Hon. Olayiwola Olawale, a former Lagos State House of Assemblymember representing Mushin 2 who died during the APC presidential campaign in Jos as the new king recognized the late honorable's effort when the struggle started and promised the people that he will not disappoint them.

The mother of the King, Iyalode Afusat Apena Williams can't hide the joy inside her as she thanks everyone who has been there for her son, the king from the beginning to the end that Almighty God will be with them and their children too with see helpers in life.

She advised the king to continue to be the good person he was because it was his good attitude that made people support him and very assured that the king would excel and his time would bring more development to the community.

Royal fathers present were HRH Oba Tajudeen Odubiyi, the Onitire of Itire, and HRH Oba Oloko, Oniwaya of Iwaya.

Nureini Akinsanya  Lagos State House of Assembly, member Constituency 1, Hon. Yinka Kazeem, Lagos State House of Assembly member, Mushin constituency 02, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, Vice Chairman, Mushin Local Government, Hon. Deji Jakande - Vice Chairman, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Councillors, Supervisors, APC party leaders, traditional leaders and community leaders from Mushin Local Government and Odi Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.

The Area Commander of Area D Police Command - ACP Awoniyi, Olosan Police Station new DPO, and management and staff of Mushin Local Government and Odi Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
