The popular road in Mushin LGA at Atewolara area has been begging for attention for so many years that road users dare to take the road even passers-by because of the several large potholes on the road.

The road starting from Agege Motor Road to Ladipo spare parts market was one of the worst roads in Mushin until the former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode started the reconstruction from Ladipo Spare parts market and stopped at Air Ligiude, a gas company beside Oduduwa Secondary School leaving the rest of the road in its sorry state.

As the present administration of Mushin Local Government under the Chairmanship of Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye began his road construction drive in his first 100 days in office during the first term, he repaired the road from where the State government stopped by patching many of the potholes at Ladipo bus stop roundabout leading to Fatai Atere way, Oduduwa Primary School junction by Ladipo Police Post and Chicken George roundabout to make the road motorable.

The Chairman has been constant to date, maintaining that stretch of the road to be motorable, that several repairs have been carried out most especially at Oduduwa Primary School junction.

The other stretch of the road from Chicken George roundabout to Agege Motor road where the eyesore is much due to the large potholes that described the road was left untouched as the state promised to repair it been one of the state roads in the LGA.

The Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Bamigboye seeing the sorry state of the road, last year cleared the drainages filled with sand and dirty particles

from Chicken George to Agege  Motor Road before the rainy season which reduced the effect of flood on the road last year.

As residents and motorists around the area are responding to the Chairman's drive on road construction, having constructed some roads like Balogun Street and Omodigbo Street within the area, they are appealing to the government to repair the road because it will serve more people than the ones constructed.

The residents in their appeal said the road is a major road within the axis that links to other major roads and it has been making a living hell for them as walking on the road gives lots of stress because you have to jump several potholes and walking at the edge of the drainage to escape been splash water by passing vehicles.

Mr. Babajide Thomas, who lives on the street said he has been living in the street for more than ten years and the road was like that until it became worse now before it turns into a death trap, the government should please do something.

"I have been living in the street for more than ten years and the road has been like this and gradually it became worse that passing through it is worrisome, sending children errand on the road, we have to caution them of the potholes and cars driving closer to the edge of the road to escape potholes.

"We are told that it is the State road why the local government has not been able to do it because we have seen the work of the Chairman on some roads around the area lately like Balogun Street and Omodigbo Street and other places but the road serves the community more than those roads, so we want the government to please repair this road.

"We thank God that no container has fallen on this road and we want the government to please come to our aid, it is not for us residents alone but for the entire Mushin community because hardly you drive through the area without taking the road except one has to take a longer route to avoid the potholes. He said.

A tricycle rider, Sunday Ojo, operating along the road expressed great disappointment in the government for leaving the road in that sorry state and appreciating the Council Chairman's effort on some parts of the road to alleviate the suffering motorists and commuters faced.

"It is we the tricycle operators that suffer on this road most because we don't have any alternative, except we pass through Owhin Street to Iyalla Street, costing us our fuel and increasing travel time, and sometimes we struggle with passengers because it affects them in getting to their destination along the way.

"We appreciate the Chairman's effort on road construction but leaving the road undone will not let his work show because this is where most people pass and they will always refer to the road and say he's not doing anything," He said.

One of the CDA leaders in the area who wants to remain anonymous said it is a shame on the government to be building the inner roads and leave the major roads like Ladipo because they have made several appeals to the government both the state and local government to repair the road but seem to fall on deaf ears and suggested that the government don't have to do the road like the way Ambode did the spare parts market of the road, they can just level it and lay Asphalt on the road, and repair some part of the drainage that are not good.

"We are not looking for gigantic road construction like the way Ambode did at Ladipo Spare Part market, because we know that the government considers cost, what they need to do is to grade the road from Chicken George to Agege Motor Road and lay Asphalt on it, then repair some part of the drainage that is not good because the last time the Charman de-silted the drainage, we discovered that some of the drainages are good, is only few bad areas of the drainage, if they can do that as they are doing to the inner roads, the whole Mushin community will appreciate them and be grateful for it. " He said.
