The LCDA's new Secretariat building, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Legacy Building, 

Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala, the Executive Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA on Friday, 18 July 2025 has justified the creation of LCDAs in Lagos State as his remarkable achievements within the last eight years within the LCDA are something to write home about, 

This was made known by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and other dignitaries and high political profiles at the commissioning of the LCDA's new Secretariat building, named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a sports arena named after Babajide Sanwo-Olu. 

It can be recalled that the creation of the 37 LCDAs in Lagos State in 2003 was aimed at bringing governance closer to the people, which Odi-olowo Ojuwoye was carved out of Mushin Local Government, and the move received lots of political battles and challenges, like not listing them among the constitutionally recognised LGAs in Nigeria. 

The argument is still ongoing in the current constitutional amendment debate, and it is likely to receive a yes as the LCDAs have justified the purpose of their creation. 

Speakers at the event were the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, Distiguished Senator Ganiu Olarewaju Solomon, the apex leaders in Mushin and Odi-olowo Ojuwoye, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, the Majority Senate Leader, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC Chairman, Lagos State Chapter, Hon. Yemi Alli, member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mushin Constituency 1 praised the Council Chairman for a well-done job, setting the standard for other LCDA and LGA in Lagos and Nigeria at large. 

Dr. Hamzat made it known that being a member of the cabinet when the LCDAs were created, considering the vision of the then Governor, who is now the president of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that Hon. Ajala and his team have justified the purpose and vision of our great leader for creating the LCDAs. 

"We are very proud of what our Local Governments and LCDAs are doing in Lagos State, since last week we have been going around the local councils commissioning several projects, we are at Mushin LGA yesterday, where we commissioned the first ever radio station owned by the local council knowing the impact of information dissemination to the people and now where are here to commission remarkable and laudable projects in a LCDA.

"Massive building with ICT centre, Event Centres, E-library, good offices and so on, also we are going for the commissioning of a sport arena, these are great works done by an LCDA, and we appreciate the vision of our great leader, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had the vision to create these LCDAs and we are proud of what they have achieved, Hon. Ajala and his team have justified the creation of LCDAs in Lagos State, we are very proud of them". He said. 

The Senate Majority Leader, Hon. Bamidele Opeyemi, assured the press men that the 37 LCDAs in Lagos State will be listed as LGAs in the Constitution, considering the current Constitution amendment debate ongoing, citing the tremendous achievements the LCDAs have achieved since their creation. 

Also, Senator Ganiu Olarewaju Solomon praised the two council chairmen Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye and Hon. Rasaq Ajala for bringing development to Mushin community as a whole, "They have delivered high valued dividend of democracy and good governance, and set high standard for others to follow, we are proud of them and I believe that those coming after them will follow suit as they are part of the achievements we are celebrating today". The Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Lagos Chapter, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, thanked the Council Chairman for making them proud as a party and urged all APC members to mobilise people for the next general election in 2027 as INEC opens the portal for voters' registration. 

Hon Yemi Alli, the predecessor to Hon. Ajala, told the people present that he was the happiest person at the event for having Hon. Ajala as his successor and expressed great optimism in the coming administration. 

The Council Chairman, Hon. Ajala, delivering his welcome address, highlighted the projects as a fulfilment of his administration's promises, citing significant progress in infrastructure, social intervention, youth empowerment, and security.

He stated that the LCDA's new Secretariat building, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Legacy Building, has 186 offices, a 2500 capacity Hall, a resource Centre with E-Library, a Legislative Chamber, a health clinic, an electric lift and a lounge.

"Our vision is to create a conducive environment for our staff, enhancing productivity and performance.

"The Jide Sanwo-Olu Football Arena provides a football mini-stadium for footballers and soccer enthusiasts, addressing the need for a befitting football pitch for our youth. The Council Chairman said. 

Other projects commissioned are Jide Sanwo-Olu Football Arena, amodern mini-stadium promoting sports and youth development; 9.2 KM Road: A newly constructed road network linking key communities; 9 Solar Power Cubicles; Providing charging services for phones, laptops, and other devices, targeting local vendors and POS operators; 13 Vehicles Handed over to accredited stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious groups, and youth organizations.

The incoming Chairman, Hon Seyi Jakande, who doubles as the Vice-chairman, promised the people that he will sustain the trend of the development in the council and bring new innovations into grassroots governance in Lagos State and Nigeria in extension as he delivered the vote of thanks, thanking all the dignitaries that attended the commissioning 

Other dignitaries in attendance were members of the Governor's Advisory Council, APC party chieftains, State Assembly and Federal House of Representatives members, council chairmen, permanent secretaries, Special Advisers to Governor Sanwo-Olu, traditional leaders, community leaders and a host of other dignitaries.
