The earlier reported electricity pole that fell at Ewe Nla Street in Mushin, having its aluminium conductors, and the damaged poles occupying the whole of the street road from Isolo road down to Omowunmi street junction of the road have been attended to by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) this morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the wooden electricity pole by Omowunmi Street junction of the street fell around 7pm yesterday, affecting other poles and the aluminium conductors occupied the road. They thanked God that there was no electricity when the incident occurred.
"It was yesterday evening, around 7pm, that the incident happened, and thank God that there was no light at that time; the damage would have been much worse.
"The wooden pole by Omowunmi street has been bad for a long time, but a concrete pole beside the wooden pole, made people to undermine its effect.
"Suddenly, the wooden pole cut at its base, pulled the aluminium conductors down, and a concrete pole next to the wooden pole broke, fell halfway, making the road dangerous for passers-by and road users". Mr. Taju, a resident.
The residents said that when the incident happened, the EKEDC officials were contacted through the CDA and promised to be there the following morning, having switched off electricity to the area from the Idi-Araba substation, due to the broken concrete pole, they could not finish the work today, had to block the road for vehicles pending the time the concrete pole is replaced.
A resident who wants to remain anonymous said, the EKEDC promised to fix the broken concrete pole as soon as possible tomorrow by removing it completely from the ground and replace it, appealed to the EKEDC officials to be fast about the replacement as they ptomised tomorrow but their fear is that tomorrow should not be next tomorrow and next tomorrow because things like this migbt take time before being attended to.
The residents appealed to the EKEDC officials to stand by their words of coming tomorrow to fix the problem and expressed great appreciation for the timely intervention of the EKEDC officials.
Presently, the road is blocked from Isolo Road to Omowunmi Street Junction; only passers-by are allowed, while the broken concrete pole is supported with woods to keep it standing halfway, and the aluminium conductors have been fixed on the pole.
