The Executive Chairman of Mushin LGA, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, since assumed office has began to hit the ground running and today, Monday 11 August 2025, he declared zero tolerance to many of the environmental infractions going on in Mushin, starting from Papa Ajao area where the environmental nuisance is on the high side by the traders which has robbed the community of its good old image as one of the serene communities in Mushin.
The Chairman made it known during an enforcement exercise led by the Council Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Hon. Semiu Ishola Karaole, accompanied by the Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Dele Abioye, representing Ward B Papa Ajao, where the enforcement took place, and other Honourable Councillors were present.
Speaking with Mushines News, the Council Chairman said his administration will not pay any lip service or condone any act of environmental nuisance in Mushin as environmental protection is at the top of his administration's agenda, and the enforcement is starting from Papa Aja, which will be extended to other areas where such acts are reported.
"As you can see all the environmental nuisance displayed by the traders in all the areas visited, roads are not free for vehicular movement and walkways are turned into shops and kiosk stands, we will not tolerate this". He said.
We have served them several notices, and they failed to comply, which is why we are demolishing those structures and vehicles removed from the road for vehicles to move". He said.
He further stated that the residents should be vigilant in reporting any of the structures demolished being erected back, urging Mushin residents at large to report any act of environmental nuisance and promised to do the needful.
The Leader of the House of Hon. Dele Abioye, representing the ward constituency, said the people have been warned several times by the previous government. Still, they turned a deaf ear, which is why the enforcement team came with full force to bring sanity to the community and thanked the Chairman for making the enforcement happen.
He further appeals to the Chairman to make the enforcement continual because of many mechanics on the road need to be cleared off the road for vehicular movement.
The Director of Environmental Service, Mushin LGA, Sanitarian Mr. Awonuga Taiwo, appreciated the community support for the Executive Chairman in achieving peaceful and smooth enforcement, saying that what the Chairman is doing is to ensure good health for Mushin residents by protecting the environment.
The Director assured the people that the momentum the Chairman has taken will be kept and followed.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjimi, the Vice-Chairman of Olanibi Landlord Association, saluted the sagacity of the Chairman for embarking on the enforcement, which the residents are happy with because the environmental nuisance has had a tremendous negative impact on the lives of the people.
Pointing out the atrocious activities of tyres, spare parts dealers in the community must be stopped as they have polluted the human community, eroding the sanity, dignity and serenity of the Papa Ajao community.
He appeals to the Chairman to set up an enforcement team saddled with the responsibility to maintain the momentum.
He added, "The community has to comply with what is obtainable, that a law is enforced and they have to dance with what is in tandem with what is obtainable".
The enforcement exercise began at Yusuf Street, the newly reconstructed road by the Bamigboye administration, where the spare parts dealers have turned the road exit by Ladipo road into an eyesore, with double parking, making the road not free for vehicular movement.
Also the enforcement team visited Akinbayode street by Sadiku Street opposite Deeperlife Bible Church where part of the road has been damaged due to the environmetal infraction by tyre warehouses that have turned the road to offloading site, parked indiscriminate, denying other road users right to make use of the road, walkways are turned to shops and lots for tyres, many of the roads visited were cleared and kiosk, shops and lots built on the drainage and walkways were demolished, sanctions and warning were issued to some erring traders and wharehouses were sealed for compliance.
