Despite continuous evacuation and cleanup efforts by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the median along Agege Motor Road in Mushin has been turned into a dumpsite, drawing complaints from residents, traders, and commuters who say the area has become both an eyesore and a health hazard.

Mushines News gathered that LAWMA trucks frequently clear the refuse, the waste piles reappear within days. From Challenge Bus Stop to Idi-Oro Junction, heaps of refuse, including food remnants, plastics, and even domestics waste, litter the median, giving off a foul stench that worsens under the scorching sun or when it rains.

Mrs. Abiola Kareem, a food vendor at the road expressed frustration over the situation:

“LAWMA people come almost every three days to clear the waste, but before two days pass, people dump refuse there again. The smell is terrible and it affects our food business. We really need stricter enforcement.”

Another resident, Mr. Ibrahim Adewale at Olorunshogo, blamed some residents and traders for frustrating the government’s efforts:

“People wait night to dump refuse on the median. It’s not LAWMA’s fault, they’ve been consistent. The problem is indiscipline. There should be serious penalties for those caught.”

At Idi-Oro, shop owners said the waste often blocks the drainage channels, causing flooding whenever it rains.

“We appreciate LAWMA because they always come to clear the dirt,” said Mrs. Chinyere Okonkwo, a trader. “But people need to stop dumping refuse here. It’s spoiling the beauty of Mushin.”

Residents affirmed that the darkness on Agege Motor Road in the night contribute largely to the cause of incessant dumping of waste on the median, claimed that if the road is light up, every body will see the perpetrators of the environmental nuisance even from far away with the light.

"The Agege Motor Road is very dark in the night, low light from small shops and warehouses light up the area which create dark spots along the road, when the streetlight was on, this behaviour was not present until the streetlight stopped working and people frequently drop refuse there, people near and far come to dump refuse, from Challenge bus stop to Idi-oro, the median is littered with waste clogging around the street light poles

Residents are appealing to both State and Local Government to increasing public awareness campaigns, environmental sanitation, collaboration between the government and residents to enforce laws, "because until people change their behavior, this median will keep turning to a dumpsite and restore the once-clean median on Agege Motor Road in Mushin." a resident.
