The Oyo State Government has introduced a new Entertainment Tax Clearance Permit aimed at strengthening event compliance and generating additional revenue for the provision of social amenities across the state.

The initiative was officially unveiled at the Western Hall, Oyo State House of Assembly, Secretariat, Ibadan, in a stakeholders’ meeting that brought together government officials, NGO representatives, and event centre owners.

According to Hon. Adelabu Tunde, who shared details of the development, the permit will apply to a wide range of entertainment activities including parties, weddings, concerts, and similar social events.

He explained that while the entertainment tax is targeted at event organizers, venue owners are also expected to verify the tax clearance status of their clients before hosting events. This measure, he noted, is designed to ensure full compliance and transparency within the state’s entertainment sector.

Addressing concerns about possible double taxation, Hon. Tunde clarified—citing the Deputy Director of Internal Revenue—that the Entertainment Tax Clearance Permit does not amount to multiple taxation but serves as a single, structured levy to enhance social development.

Media organizations such as GMN TV and Greenland World News were present at the event as Hon. Tunde, who serves as Principal Consultant, responded to questions from stakeholders and emphasized the importance of cooperation in implementing the new policy.

He urged event organizers and residents to embrace the initiative, stating that their compliance would contribute significantly to the state’s progress and the improvement of social infrastructure.

“This is not just a tax; it’s a partnership for development,” Hon. Tunde said. “When we comply, we help Oyo State grow.”
