It was a day of commendation, reflection, and renewed confidence in leadership as stakeholders across Mushin Local Government Area applauded the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, during the 2026 Budget Consultative Forum held at the Council Secretariat Hall on Wednesday, 5 November 2025.

This year's annual forum was also held to mark the 100 days in office, bringing together a wide range of participants, including community leaders, religious representatives, market associations, youth groups, artisans, and civil society organisations. It served as an avenue for open dialogue on the proposed 2026 budget and the council’s development priorities for the new fiscal year.

In his welcome address, Hon. Aruwe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and participatory budgeting. He assured residents that every project and policy under his leadership would continue to reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Mushin. The chairman also used the occasion to present a scorecard of his achievements since assuming office.

“We are proud of the progress made since the inception of this administration in areas such as the free distribution of 500 school bags, writing materials, sandals, and exercise books; free distribution of 300 GCE forms to indigent students; renovation of a public primary school on Akodu Street; and the construction and rehabilitation of several roads with solar-powered streetlights and proper drainage channels across the ten wards,” he stated.

He further highlighted ongoing initiatives including regular desilting of canals and water channels, monthly free medical outreach for residents, free medical screening for council staff, free holiday coaching for students, reconstruction of the Primary Health Centre at Omodigbo, construction of a new police post at Idi-Araba, donation of transformers to various communities, and other developmental projects.

Stakeholders who spoke at the forum commended the chairman for his hands-on leadership and visible developmental strides within a short period of 100 days in office. They cited the Owo Arugbo welfare scheme, environmental sanitation drives, and the growing peace in Mushin as clear evidence of a responsive and people-centred administration.

Hon. Seye Adedejo, the Spokesman of the Lagos State APC Chapter, described Aruwe’s leadership as a refreshing phase of governance in Mushin.

“Aruwe has started well. We can all see the difference in governance within these few months. We are proud of the leadership direction so far,” he said.

Adedejo also noted that social unrest and youth violence, which once plagued some parts of Mushin, had significantly reduced since the current administration assumed office.

“Security of lives and property should be a major concern of any good and responsive government, and this administration has achieved that. Beyond that, the various ongoing projects show real commitment. I must commend him—he started well, and I believe he will end well,” he added.

Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, the immediate past Chairman of Mushin LGA and representative of the Apex Leader in Mushin and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, Distinguished Senator Ganiu Olarewaju Solomon, also lauded the chairman’s performance.

“He started his administration on a good note with massive road projects everywhere. I have no doubt he will sustain this tempo and even do more,” Bamigboye said.

Similarly, Hon. Toyin Fayinka, the member representing Mushin Constituency II in the Federal House of Representatives, called for stronger community participation in sustaining government projects.

“As your representative, I know how much has been invested in road construction and other development projects. However, the attitude of some residents towards maintaining public infrastructure is not encouraging. I urge everyone to take ownership of the facilities in their communities,” he advised.

Market leaders and community heads also lent their voices in support of the administration’s efforts. Alhaja Borokini, the Iyaloja-General of Mushin and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, praised the chairman’s accessibility and urged the council to sustain its infrastructural development and environmental enforcement.

Other speakers, including youth leaders and traditional chiefs, commended the participatory nature of the forum, describing it as “a reflection of true democracy at the grassroots.”

In his closing remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Semiu Karaole, expressed appreciation for the presence of all participants and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to responsive and responsible governance. He assured residents that every suggestion from the forum would be carefully considered in the final draft of the 2026 budget.

“Our goal is to build a Mushin that works for everyone, from our elderly to our young people. Together, we will make 2026 a year of greater transformation,” he concluded.

The forum ended with goodwill messages and a resounding endorsement of the Aruwe/Karaole administration’s leadership direction as Mushin sets its development agenda for the year 2026
