It was a day of joy and fulfillment for residents of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA on Monday, November 10, as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande, officially commissioned the newly rehabilitated Adegboyega and Adelakun Streets, declaring them open to traffic.
The commissioning, which drew community leaders, residents, and traders, marked another major stride in Jakande’s HEWA Agenda and a testament to his 100 days of impactful leadership.
Standing before gleaming asphalt and freshly painted lane markings, Jakande expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and support. “This isn’t just about roads—it’s about dignity,” he said. “It’s about ensuring our children get to school during the rains, our traders move goods easily, and our elders walk freely. This is a collective victory for Ã’dì-Olowo.”
The chairman assured residents that the roads were constructed with durable materials and would stand the test of time. He, however, cautioned against misuse and announced the formation of an enforcement team to prevent indiscriminate dumping, misuse, or vandalism.
Earlier, Chief Imam Rafiu Ajibola of Adegboyega Street opened the ceremony with prayers, praising Jakande for delivering visible progress within his first 100 days in office. Similarly, Pastor Akinsanya of Adelakun Street commended the chairman’s hands-on leadership and swift response to residents’ needs.
Community leaders also took turns to laud the chairman’s performance. The CDA Chairman, Mr. Fowowe, expressed appreciation on behalf of the residents, describing the project as “a true dividend of democracy.”
Local trader Mrs. Aisha Ogunleye could not hide her excitement: “These roads have changed everything! No more potholes or vehicles stuck in mud. Seyi Jakande kept his word.”
Adding historical perspective, Mr. Thompson Igri, the new Road Enforcement Chairman for Adegboyega Street, recalled that the last major road construction in the area took place in 1982, under the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, first Executive Governor of Lagos State. “A lion must give birth to a lion,” he said proudly, describing Hon. Seyi Jakande’s leadership as a worthy continuation of his father’s legacy.
The newly rehabilitated roads, constructed by seasoned engineers, feature quality asphalt surfacing, clear lane markings, and pedestrian-friendly walkways. According to Jakande, the project is part of a phase one rehabilitation plan covering 14 roads, along with drainage and public space improvements across the LCDA.
“We’re building a community where no one is left behind,” Jakande assured, emphasizing that more development projects are already in motion.
The event wrapped up with prayers, cheers, and renewed hope as residents celebrated a major step toward a cleaner, safer, and better-connected Òdì-Olowo community.
