The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Lawal Jakande, has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Season 4 Sport Fiesta, themed “Step to Sustainability.” The announcement was made on Friday during a well-attended press conference that brought together members of the press, community leaders, youth groups, sports enthusiasts, partners, and residents of the LCDA.
Declaring the event open, Hon. Jakande described the fiesta as “a milestone in our commitment to youth development, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable community building through sports.” He explained that this year’s edition introduces a more dynamic structure, expanded games, and unprecedented opportunities for young talents across all nine wards.
Season 4 is set to be the most competitive and inclusive yet, featuring a wide array of games that reflect modern, traditional, and digital sporting interests. The lineup includes:
5-Aside Soccer Tournament, Boxing, Draught, Table Tennis, 52 Card Game, Video Games, Snooker, Special Games (for Persons With Disabilities).
In a historic move, the chairman announced a ₦25 million grand prize, the largest in the history of the competition, underscoring the LCDA’s belief in sports as a vehicle for empowerment, career growth, and community development.
He further explained that each ward will conduct its own local qualifiers, ensuring: equal opportunities for all youths, discovery of hidden grassroots talents, strong ward representation, healthy competition and unity across communities.
“This is true sustainability—building talent from the ground up,” Hon. Jakande emphasized.
Reflecting on his administration’s first 100 days in office, the chairman highlighted several achievements aligned with the theme of sustainability: Massive road rehabilitation projects, extensive drainage and canal clearing, refurbishment of boreholes, installation of solar streetlights for improved security, construction of a new Primary Healthcare Centre in Kayode, free medical outreach for over 1,000 residents in partnership with Eko Club Atlanta, monthly support for widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, Back-to-School initiative, free feeding in all primary schools, free GCE forms for indigent students, ICT and digital literacy training, One Day Chairman program, Empowerment of food vendors and youth kiosk administrators, sponsorship of spelling bee competitions, completion of a 5-a-side football pitch at Nusara-Ud-Deen Primary School.
“These modest achievements are building blocks,” he said. “Season 4 of the Sport Fiesta is another bold step toward a future where our youths thrive.”
With the festive season approaching, Hon. Jakande also unveiled several community-support programs to round off the year, including:
Annual subsidized chicken sale at the council premises, Quiz and debate competitions, Bursary awards for indigent tertiary students with excellent CGPA
The chairman expressed deep appreciation to sports committees, community leaders, sponsors, youth groups, and the media for their unwavering support. He encouraged participating youths to “show passion, discipline, and unity” as they compete.
“Let the world see the energy, talent, and excellence that Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye is known for,” he said. “Together, we will build an LCDA rooted in strength, sustainability, and shared prosperity.”
