The Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to educational excellence and innovation with the successful hosting of a technology-driven Quiz and Debate Competition on Friday, 19 December 2025, at the Council Secretariat Hall. The initiative, introduced two years ago, has continued to gain recognition and relevance.

The competition, which brought together pupils and students from public primary and secondary schools across the LCDA, showcased a blend of academic brilliance and modern technology. Digital tools were deployed for questions, scoring, and time management, a move that enhanced transparency and aligned the exercise with global best practices in education delivery.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, commended the organisers, teachers, pupils, and students for sustaining the vision behind the competition. He noted that the tech-driven format was deliberately introduced to prepare students for a rapidly evolving digital world.

“When we started this competition two years ago, our goal was to go beyond the conventional quiz and debate format,” Hon. Jakande said. “We wanted to expose our students to technology early, build their confidence, and encourage critical thinking. Seeing how far this initiative has come gives us immense pride and reaffirms our commitment to investing in education.” he said.

Participants and teachers also expressed appreciation for the innovative structure of the competition. Speaking with Mushines, Adeshola Waheed, head boy of Ojuwoye Senior Comprehensive High School and co-winner of the Senior School Quiz Category, described the experience as both challenging and inspiring.

“The use of technology made the competition more exciting and fair, as it pushed us to prepare better and think faster. We feel proud to be part of something this progressive,” he said.

Hamed Fatimo, co-winner of the Primary School Debate Category from St. Paul Anglican Primary School, expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman for the Friday Jako Jollof and Jako School Bags initiative. Friday Jako Jollof is a free Friday jollof rice feeding programme for public primary school pupils aimed at improving school attendance, while the Jako School Bags initiative provides free back-to-school kits comprising school bags and writing materials.

Education stakeholders present at the event applauded the LCDA for sustaining the programme, noting that over the past two years, the competition has fostered healthy academic rivalry, improved student performance, and strengthened collaboration among schools within the LCDA.

The event concluded with the presentation of prizes to all winners and participating schools, reinforcing the council’s resolve to continue promoting innovation, learning, and youth development in Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA.
