In a strong demonstration of grassroots-focused governance aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has empowered 500 residents with ₦100,000 cash grants each under a newly introduced initiative tagged “Aruwe’s Mushin Renewed Hope Support Fund.”
The empowerment programme, held at the Mushin Local Government Secretariat, drew community leaders, political stakeholders, market associations, youth groups and beneficiaries selected from across the wards in Mushin. The intervention was designed to support petty traders, artisans, widows and youths, with the aim of stimulating local economic activities, reducing poverty and strengthening household incomes.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Aruwe said the initiative was a deliberate effort to domesticate President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level. It would have been implemented last December, as its focus is not to give residents festive money, but to support local businesses.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasises inclusive growth and direct impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Through the Aruwe’s Mushin Renewed Hope Support Fund, we are restoring hope, empowering productivity and putting resources directly into the hands of our people,” he said.
Speaking with Mushines, he stressed that the cash support was not a loan but a social investment meant to grow small businesses and encourage self-reliance among residents.
Several dignitaries who graced the occasion also spoke with Mushines and commended the chairman for the initiative, urged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly.
The Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mushin Constituency II, Hon. Toyin Fayinka, described the empowerment as a practical expression of people-oriented leadership.
“This is what the Renewed Hope Agenda represents—supporting the grassroots and empowering citizens economically. I commend Hon. Aruwe for this thoughtful intervention and I urge the beneficiaries to make good use of this fund so the programme can be sustained and expanded,” Fayinka said.
Also speaking, the Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Yinka Kazeem, praised the council chairman for prioritising economic empowerment at a critical time.
“This initiative shows that Mushin Local Government is aligned with both the state and federal visions of economic inclusion. The beneficiaries must use this money wisely so that the chairman will be encouraged to do even more,” he noted.
The immediate past Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, also applauded Hon. Aruwe for building on people-centred policies.
“Empowerment like this strengthens trust between the government and the people. I advise the beneficiaries to ensure they give positive feedback by using the fund productively, which will further motivate the chairman to expand this noble programme,” Bamigboye said.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed gratitude, describing the support as timely and impactful amid current economic realities.
The launch of Aruwe’s Mushin Renewed Hope Support Fund underscores the Mushin Local Government’s commitment to inclusive governance, economic resilience and sustainable community development, while reinforcing its support for President Tinubu’s vision of restoring hope and prosperity, starting from the grassroots.
