The Lagos State Government has announced Monday, January 12, 2026, as the official resumption date for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session for all public and private schools across the state, including government-owned technical colleges.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in line with the state’s approved academic calendar, affirming the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable and well-structured school year.
According to the statement, all schools are expected to commence full academic and administrative activities immediately upon resumption to ensure a smooth continuation of the session.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged school owners and administrators to strictly adhere to approved public health and safety regulations as students return to classrooms.
“All educational institutions must strictly comply with the required public health protocols as schools reopen,” Alli-Balogun said.
He disclosed that the state government has deployed monitoring teams to schools across Lagos to assess compliance with established safety standards, stressing that adherence to the guidelines is mandatory.
“These inspections are designed to safeguard the health and safety of students, teaching staff and non-teaching personnel,” the commissioner added.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education also praised teachers, parents and guardians for their continued cooperation, describing their support as crucial to sustaining stability and progress in the education sector.
Parents and guardians were further advised to ensure that pupils and students are adequately prepared for the new term, both academically and socially, as schools resume full operations statewide.
