Residents of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have been commended for their impressive compliance with the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise, as the initiative kicked off on Saturday, April 26, 2026.
The Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Seyi Jakande, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation observed across the community, describing it as a strong commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health.
Monitoring activities began as early as 6:00 a.m. at Kayode Street Bridge, where the chairman, alongside the 17-man sanitation committee, flagged off inspections across the nine wards of the LCDA. Residents were seen preparing ahead of the official 6:30 a.m. commencement, gathering tools such as rakes and shovels to clean their surroundings.
Moving from ward to ward and street to street, Dr Jakande noted a high level of compliance, with many residents actively clearing drainage systems, packing silts, and ensuring their immediate environments were tidy. He also used the opportunity to sensitise the public on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment beyond the exercise period.
The sanitation monitoring exercise is part of the broader initiative by the Lagos State Government to reinstate the monthly environmental sanitation culture across the state.
Community members expressed optimism that the renewed exercise would help curb environmental hazards, prevent flooding, and promote healthier living conditions within Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye.
The successful turnout marks a promising start to the reintroduction of the sanitation program, with authorities hopeful that the high level of compliance will be sustained in subsequent exercises.
