The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Toba Ajiboye, reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday night after suspected gunmen allegedly opened fire on his vehicle while he was returning home from his Fadeyi childhood area of Lagos.
According to information circulating on social media, the attackers riddled Toba's white vehicle with bullets, leaving multiple holes on the windscreen and different parts of the car's body.
A video widely shared online shows the vehicle bearing several bullet impacts, fueling concerns among supporters and residents over the alleged attack.
Sources familiar with the incident said Toba and other occupants of the vehicle sustained bullet wounds and survived the attack, although the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
It was gathered that he was on his way out to Ikorodu Road Express when the attacker blocked his car and opened fire on the vehicle.
The police have commenced an investigation into the incident to determine those responsible and the motive behind the alleged attack.
However, as of the time of filing this report, neither Comrade Toba Ajiboye nor the Lagos State Police Command had issued an official statement confirming or denying the incident.
The development has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the alleged assassination attempt and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
