Mushin Local Government has embarked on a redevelopment plan of the popular Idi-Oro foodstuffs market called Kajola Igbeyinadun Food Stuffs Market into a modern market.
The Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye made this known at his office on Thursday, 19 January 2023, during the presentation of the site plan by the engineer on behalf of the contractor, igi- Aruwe Universal Resources Limited led by Alhaja Aderonke Rukayat Adeboye.
The Chairman welcomed all the parties involving in the project and assured the market leaders that the redevelopment plan is for the good of the market, that the present condition of the market is not good considering the edible goods sold at the market and seek for their cooperation and understanding on the market leaders as the contractor moves to the site and assured them that while the construction is ongoing, the traders will not be relocated but be allowed to sell within the market.
Also said the Council has no hidden agenda and promised that the present traders' interest will be adequately protected by making the shops affordable for them.
On behalf of the market management, Iya Oloja, Baba Oloja and other members present appreciated the Council Chairman for the redevelopment as it is their wish to see the market redeveloped into a modern market which will make it attractive to more buyers and make the environment neat and clean considering the kind of goods sold in the market.
The engineer took the people present through the site plan, saying the new modern market will have about 438 shops in a two-story building with the provision of an open floor for the garri and plantain sellers, a cash point for traders to save and withdraw cash, accessible exit for vehicles and men, Q claps, toilet and fire service space, car park space along the building fence and promised to use the best of building materials.
The site plan was thoroughly looked into by every stakeholder present, questioning the engineer on some foreseen structural defects which amendments were suggested and agreed upon
