The Lagos State Police Command on Friday has paraded about 27 suspects arrested for different crimes, including armed robbery, murder, and cultism which 20 of them were cult members from different areas of Lagos.
The State Command Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, said that in many of the arrests, police recovered dangerous weapons including guns, cutlasses, knives, charms and their Barrets representing their groups.
"Before you today we have a total of 27 suspects who engaged in various crimes including armed robbery, murder, cultism, vandalisation, etc.
“From all these cases, which we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of six arms, 12 live ammunition, one knife, two motorcycles, one vehicle, and SIM cards.”
The summary of the arrest revealed that a group of boys who are suspected members of a cult known as Kesari Confraternity in Mushin, who are planning to retaliate their leader’s death in the Mushin community were arrested on Friday, 30 June.
Hundeyin said, "The police operatives swung into action and arrested four suspects namely: Tobi Robert, 23; Opeyemi Adeosun, 22; Jenked Nurudeen Kazeem, 27 were notorious armed robbers and cult members terrorising Mushin and its environs."
He said the suspects confessed to being active members of the confraternity, as an investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members and recover more of their operational arms.
Mushines News gathered that it was Olosan Police Division officers led by the DPO, SP Garuba Oseni who arrested the boys when an intelligent report got to them.
In another arrest, he also said on July 28 around 3.30 pm, the police received credible intelligence on an ongoing jungle justice in Aratunmi, Iba Okokomaiko area.
Policemen quickly deployed to the scene and rescued the suspects, Segun Ishola, aka Bouncer, 31; and Auwal Daud, aka Blessing Boy, 21, who were being mobbed for shooting one Ojo Lion to death.
Also, two Eiye confraternity members were arrested in the Ebute-Metta area on Tuesday while they were brandishing arms to go and attack rival cult members in the same area.
The suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity. locally made single-barrel pistol with two live cartridges were recovered from them.
One pipeline vandal, whose gang allegedly vandalised the NNPC Pipeline at Idimu on July 6, 2023, was arrested as efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang.
He said that all suspects paraded would be charged to court immediately.
