The annual Ramadan lecture hosted by the Muslim faithful of the Lagos State Education District Six hosted this year's 20th edition at Ikeja Grammar School Hall, Bolade, Oshodi on Thursday, 28 March 2024.

The Ramadan lecture has students, teachers, and principals from schools within the district VI jurisdiction comprised of Mushin, Ikeja,  Oshodi/Isolo, and Odiolowo Ojuwoye including dignitaries and Islamic scholars as this year's theme is "Rejuvenating the youths for a better Nigeria" as the event was anchored by the co-host, Mr. Legbeti Paul Ebunola, the Director of Co-curricular Science and Technology of District VI.

The Host, the Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary, Dr. (Mrs) Yusuff Sheriffah Ajoke welcomed the quests to the event and emphasized the benefit of the Ramadan period which is to gain Allah's blessings, forgiveness, prosperity, and lectures during the holy month are very important, making the event important.

She further explained why the year's theme is "Rejuvenating the youths for a better Nigeria".was chosen, that it is a fact that children of today are the leaders of tomorrow, as the children have been nurtured which they need to be prepared for tomorrow through rejuvenation.

The keynote address was delivered by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun who said for us to have a better society, there is a need for the student to imbibe the teaching of ethics and good culture, so that students will not only perform better in their academic but also moral behaviours and urged parents to do same so that students coming from home are properly brought up with the right attitude to have a good school system and a better community.

Dr. Siddiq Okanlawon Kadara, a lecturer from Lagos State University, Department of  Islamic and Contemporaries Studies, who is the quest lecturer said the best way to achieve the theme of the event is to instill in the youths the right education, customs, and traditions that will make them respect constituted authorities, elders at home, in the society and schools.

He further stated that considering the high level of social vices among the youth of today using technology negatively is to make religious and moral studies compulsory in schools so that they can be cultured and understand that they are spiritual entity and all their actions and inactions have consequences here on earth and hereafter.

The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, the Chairman of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA made it known that the role of private and public organisations including the government is to use their platforms to remold, reshape and redirect the focus of our youths to see the good side of the country by using their numerical strength to promote the country to the outside world positively.

He advised both the youth and the old to develop a greater sense of patriotism for the country and start to do things that correct the negativity about the country.

Speaking with pressmen, the Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary, Dr. (Mrs) Yusuff Sheriffah Ajoke stated that they realised the level of moral decadence in today's youth and to have a better future, there is a need to rejuvenate them to do away with all these social vices.

She urged the religious leaders and parents to intensify moral teaching as the school alone can not achieve the rejuvenation process of our children into good moral standards, it has to be a holistic approach in which the school will not relent in playing their roles for our children to be better citizens of their respective community.

Other activities of the day were  Quran recitation by the students which prizes were given and prayers were conducted for the leadership of the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the State Governor, Mr Babajide Oludhola Saneo-Olu, his Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, State cabinet members and the entire citizens in general.
