The lingering crises rocking Paramo market, one of the market units in Ladipo International Spare Parts Market in Mushin, will be a thing of the past as the newly constituted board of the market headed by Barrister Femi Martins met with warring factions and aggrieved members of the market to restore and ensure lasting peace. 

Addressing the stakeholders at the meeting held at Mushin Local Government Secretariat on Thursday, 5 December 2024. Barrister Femi Martins, the market board chairman disclosed that it could be recalled recently that Mushin LGA passed some by-laws which included the formation of a board for each market within the community to supervise the activities of the traders for compliance with government rules and regulations, revenue boosting, resolve crises and others, which Paramo Market of Ladipo Spare Parts market happened to be the first board to be constituted with the mandate of finding lasting and enduring peace to the lingering crises in the market. 

"We called on you as major stakeholders in the market to give us, the board members, an insight into the lingering crises as our mandate is to install peace at all costs without fear or favor and give a fair hearing to all warring parties." The Chairman of the board, Barr. Femi Martins. 

It was gathered that the causes of the lingering crises are multifaceted from the election of new executive members to revenue collection to non-payment of allottees fees, marginalization of other tribes, and others. 

The issue of the market name was raised that the market should henceforth be known as Paramo market against the Aguyi Ironsi which all stakeholders present said they have no issue as regards the name of the market, acknowledging the name "Paramo" as the original name of the market. 

The former President of the Market, Mr. Emmanuel Mbabuere, who stands for the former president and represented the incumbent president seeking reelection, said the market has always been in crisis whenever an election is coming up, and they always find a way to resolve it, which is happening now. 

The family of late Alhaji Olajoku, the original owner of the land, who was present at the meeting said most of the traders occupying the land have not paid their allottee fees as agreed when the shops and landed space were allotted to the traders and they are ready to collect the money, also accused the present executive of the traders' Union of not being fair to them in the management of the market, it has been taken away from them, rendering them redundant on their father's property, which is against the agreement between them and the traders. 

A member of the opposition party in the election process accused the present executive of so many practices that are against the Constitution of the trader's union, which led to a court injunction, advising all parties to maintain the status quo and revealing that the two warring parties are meeting presently to resolve election crises. 

A member of the Association of Yoruba Artisans and Traders of the market was present, and the Hausas, who deal with condemned materials, were also present, accusing the Ibos in the market of dominating the affairs of the market without carrying other tribes along and asking for an inclusive electoral process in the next election. 

Some of the founding members of the market who are present expressed bitterness and anger at the way the executive is managing the market without giving consideration to the founding fathers; the show of power in the market by the present leadership is strongly opposed and seeks peace to reign in the market. 

At the meeting, stakeholders stated their interest and concern, members of the board questioned them for clarity and it was agreed that peace must be restored in the market because it is the only way progress and business can move on in the market. 

Speaking with Mushines, the Chairman of the market board, Barrister Femi Martins disclosed that the interest of the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye is to see that lasting and enduring peace is restored in the market because the market is one of the things that places the Mushin community on the map, as the center of commerce and trade in the centre of excellence, Lagos state and beyond, and they will consult widely in achieving that. 

As some stakeholders were not present while some were not captured in the invitation to the meeting, the meeting was adjourned to next Thursday and to be held at the market.
