Every May 27th is International Children’s Day, set aside to celebrate future leaders, discussing their challenges and the world around them for a better and brighter tomorrow. Mushin Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, has been making the day a memorable one for the pupils in the Mushin community with a funfair and prizes.
This year, 2025 Children’s Day was hosted at the usual venue. Ansar-ud=Deen Primary School. Itire where selected pupils from all the primary schools in Mushin converged to dance, eat, merry and play with one another.
Speaking at the event, the Council Chairman made the pupils know that the purpose of organizing the event annually is to provide the children with the opportunity to meet stakeholders like him to inspire and motivate them to be better people in the future.
“Among you here, we have future lawyers, governors, accountants, doctors, council chairmen and so on because we are like you before, so I advised you to be disciplined children at home and in school because without being disciplined socially and academically, little can you achieve in life.” He said.
Speaking with Mushines News, the Council Chairman said the children should face their studies as their parents and government have invested so much in them, to be disciplined, not to mix with bad friends, misuse smartphones or engage in bad behaviours.
He also seized the opportunity to campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, and urged Mushin residents to come out in great numbers on Saturday 12 July 2025 to vote for the APC Chairmanship candidate in the person of Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe Tunbosun and all the Councilors, giving assurance of continuity of good governance his administration is known for.
The Vice Chairman of the Council, who is the APC Chairmanship candidate, assured the pupils that when elected as the Chairman, he’s going to improve on his predecessors’ achievements in education and improve on it by doing more.
“When elected as the Chairman, we are going to emphasize education by catching them young through various programs that will add value to the children's learning process and improve on the achievement of the present chairman to do more, come next year children’s day, we will make it elaborate and more fun for the children.’ He said.
The Supervisor for Education, Hon Semiu Karole, who is also the APC Vice Chairmanship candidate, said the Children should listen to their parents and teachers by being good pupils in the school and good children to their parents so that tomorrow can be better for them.
He added that the Council chairman had invested so much in education, such as the building of schools, distribution of writing materials, first aid boxes, bursary awards, free GCE and JAMB forms, provision of free school ride and so on.
A special appearance was made by members of the Steering Committee for Community Diversion Rehabilitation program, a program designed by the State to give children who are in conflict with the law or are prone to commit crime, an opportunity to live a better life with counselling and vocational training after school rather than going to prison as they live with their parent which has recorded so much success stories.
The Chairman of the Committee, Chief Magistrate Olajumoke Olagbegi Adelabu, made it known that children should know that they have responsibilities as children to their parents and community just as their parents have responsibilities to them.
“our children need to know that all that their parent is teaching them, like respect, discipline, and good conduct, are in the law, and they need to display good conduct for their own sake.” She said.
She added that parents need to understand the difference between discipline and punishment, you can punish a child for what he or she did wrong while you discipline a child for what you want him or her to become, for example, you punish a child for stealing but when a child brings a phone to a class and you seize the phone, you are disciplining the children so that he or she can concentrate in the class.
Many of the pupils spoke with expressed great joy for being part of the celebration and were happy to see the chairman and other dignitaries in attendance; the pupils displayed their matching parade and dancing skills h which they were awesomely rewarded with prizes, free drinks and food, and presented birthday cake to the Council Chairman who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, May 25th.
