The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, has introduced a new mentorship and motivational program for youths in the council area, tagged “One-Day Chairman.”

The initiative, he explained, is designed to empower young people and instill civic responsibility. It was inspired by a campaign encounter with a young boy who expressed interest in becoming a council chairman in the future.

“During my campaign, a young boy asked what position I was contesting for. I told him, ‘Chairman.’ He joked that he also wanted to be Chairman when he grew up. I promised him that if elected, I would make him Chairman for a day. Today, I am fulfilling that promise,” Jakande said.

On Wednesday, Master Oluwakunmi Oyegunle, the first beneficiary of the program, was officially inaugurated as the One-Day Chairman. He was received by Hon. Jakande, Vice Chairman Hon. Niyi Awodogan, council management staff, and legislators.

The boy was handed the symbolic green pen, occupied the Chairman’s seat, and toured the secretariat, where he observed the daily duties of council leadership.

Speaking with Mushines News, Jakande said the initiative would now be an annual event. According to him, future participants will be selected based on outstanding performance in academics, sports, creativity, and character.

“This program will encourage our young ones to cultivate good habits, aim higher, and project our community in a positive light. I believe in investing in future leaders, and I am confident this will have a lasting impact,” he said.

As part of his duties, the One-Day Chairman also presented certificates alongside other dignitaries at the graduation ceremony of the council’s Summer Tech Boot Camp, held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Expressing his excitement, Master Oyegunle described the experience as the beginning of “something greater” in his life.
