The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has welcomed pupils in all public primary schools across Mushin back to school for the 2025/2026 academic session with the distribution of 5,000 back-to-school packages.

The packages, which include school bags, sandals, exercise books, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners, were shared across the 57 public primary schools in Mushin. The initiative, according to the Chairman, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents as the new school year begins.

Flagging off the distribution at Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, Itire, Hon. Aruwe encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined and focused on their studies. “I welcome you all back to school after the holiday. I want you to be disciplined and face your studies so that your parents’ and government’s investments in you will not be in vain,” he advised.

Speaking with Mushines News, the Council Chairman explained that the gesture was borne out of the rising cost of educational materials. “With these items, no pupil has an excuse not to resume school. We understand the challenges of parents, and as a government, we must support them and ensure our children return to school with excitement and readiness to learn,” he said.

The distribution team, led by Hon. Aruwe, also visited Olisa Inclusive Primary School, Methodist Primary School, New City Primary School, and Odu Abore Memorial Primary School, where pupils equally received the back-to-school packages. The Council’s management, Leader of the Legislative Arm, and other councilors were also present.

Hon. Aruwe noted that the exercise will continue until Wednesday to ensure that every pupil benefits, adding that Mushin has one of the largest numbers of primary schools in Nigeria. He also urged parents and teachers to monitor the children closely, ensure they do their homework, and encourage them to take their studies seriously.

The Headmistress of Olisa Inclusive Primary School, Mrs. Ugochukwu Maryjuan, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and highly commendable. “At the start of a school year, many parents struggle to meet their children’s needs. This support is a huge relief. On behalf of the pupils and school management, we sincerely thank Hon. Aruwe for this gesture,” she said.

The excitement was evident as the pupils sang joyfully and expressed their appreciation to the Council Chairman for the gesture.
