The Lagos State Government has commenced the process of reconstructing 114 roads across its 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), with Adeshiyan Street and Shokunbi Street in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA among the roads earmarked for the intervention.

As part of the process, an open bidding exercise for the two roads was conducted on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the council's conference hall, with prospective contractors, council officials and other stakeholders in attendance.

The exercise forms part of the state government's broader road reconstruction initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure across Lagos State.

Welcoming participants to the exercise, the Procurement Officer of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Mr Omotayo, explained that the project was advertised by Conference 57, a platform comprising chairmen of the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.

According to him, the advertisement was published in The Nation newspaper on September 15, 2026, inviting interested contractors to submit bids for the reconstruction of 114 roads across the state.

He explained that the exercise in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA focused on the two roads allocated to the council under the initiative.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the LCDA, Hon. Mojeed Daramola, described Adeshiyan Street and Shokunbi Street as strategic routes connecting important parts of the community.

Hon. Daramola expressed optimism that the reconstruction of the roads would improve accessibility, support commercial activities and enhance the appearance of the surrounding neighbourhoods.

He explained that Adeshiyan Street stretches from Ilupeju Bypass to Shylon Street, connecting more than 10 streets, while Shokunbi Street runs from Agege Motor Road to Coker Street.

According to him, the strategic locations of the roads make their reconstruction particularly important to residents, traders, business owners and other road users.

He added that completing the projects would provide a boost to local businesses and contribute to the overall development of the community.

Representing the Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr Bukola Olatola Olayinka explained that the exercise marked the official opening of bids submitted for the two roads allocated to Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA under the state government's 114-road reconstruction programme.

Olayinka described the exercise as the first phase of the procurement process, during which the bidding box was opened in the presence of participating contractors and other stakeholders.

The representative explained that the next stage would involve the Tender Board Committee reviewing the proposals submitted by the bidders.

Following the assessment, the most suitable bidder would be selected in accordance with the procurement process, and the successful contractor would be announced.

The process is expected to ensure that the submitted proposals undergo the necessary scrutiny before a final decision is reached.

The council chairman, Hon. Dr Seyi Jakande, who was represented by the Vice-Chairman, Hon. Niyi Awodogan, reiterated the importance of transparency and fairness in the bidding exercise.

He assured participants that the bids would be scrutinised and that the successful contractor would be announced by the state government through the established process.

The exercise was attended by councillors, supervisors, prospective contractors, members of the council's management team and other staff of the LCDA.

The proposed reconstruction of Adeshiyan Street and Shokunbi Street has raised expectations among residents and business operators who stand to benefit from improved road infrastructure.

However, the bidding exercise represents a step in the procurement process, with the selection of contractors and subsequent implementation of the projects still to follow.

Residents will be looking forward to the completion of the procurement process and the commencement of construction works on the two roads.

The initiative forms part of the Lagos State Government's wider road infrastructure programme covering all 57 LGAs and LCDAs across the state.
