Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 25-year-old tailor, identified as Kowiu Oloyede, for allegedly creating a fake video on TikTok claiming that bandits had invaded the Atan Ota area of Ogun State.

The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Atan Ota Police Division on Saturday following widespread panic triggered by the viral video, which falsely suggested that residents were under attack.

According to police authorities, Oloyede admitted during interrogation that he fabricated the video in a bid to gain popularity online, confessing that he “wanted to be famous on social media.”

The Ogun State Police Command said the misleading content caused fear and anxiety within the community, prompting swift action by security operatives.

Police further disclosed that the suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigations are ongoing ahead of possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Command warned members of the public against spreading fake information capable of causing panic or disturbing public peace, stressing that individuals found guilty of such acts would face legal consequences.
